Car to be at auction
www.brightwells.com/classic-motoring/auctions/classic-vintage-november-2016/cata ...

Auction description:
Estimate £18,500 - £22,500
Registration Date 1958
Registration Number 102 BYB
Make & Model Jaguar MkI 2.4 Manual
Colour Imperial Maroon
Chassis No. S910857
Engine size 2,483 cc
Engine No. BC5980-8
Documents V5C; original buff log book; 11 old MOTs to 1969; handbook; service book; lube chart; Heritage Certificate etc.

As the accompanying Heritage Certificate confirms, this lovely Imperial Maroon 2.4-litre was built in April 1958 with red leather trim and manual transmission. The original buff log book shows that the car was registered 102 BYB the following month, being first owned by a Mrs Clara Handel of Somerset, numerous service records showing that she and her husband kept it until at least 1970 at which point it had covered just over 25,000 miles. It then had three further owners before being acquired by the current keeper five years ago.

Eleven old MOTs spanning the period 1969 to 2011 show the gradual accumulation of mileage and are proof that the 32,355 miles currently displayed is almost certainly genuine, the overall condition of the car only confirming this figure. The original red leather interior is a joy to behold with that irreplaceable patina that only comes from decades of gentle use. Indeed, apart from an older repaint, the car appears to be wholly original throughout, even retaining the original Trico glass washer bottle in the engine bay and the complete original tool kit in the spare wheel well. The original owner's handbook and lubrication chart are also present.

Starting instantly on the occasion of our visit, the engine ran like a Swiss watch as we moved it around for these photos, with excellent temperature and 40psi oil pressure at hot idle, rising to 60psi with a quick blip on the throttle. As nice an example as you could realistically hope to find, this wonderfully well-preserved Jaguar ticks all the right boxes and would sit well in any collection. We like it a lot!

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
