The Shropshire vendor of this Jaguar MkI 2.4 Saloon, which was made in Coventry at the Browns Lane works in 1958, tells us that the luxury sports saloon has been owned by their family run garage business since 1965 and, having been protected by spaying oil underneath each year, was regularly used until 1997. The bodywork and green paintwork are said to be reasonable, the brown interior re-upholstered. According to the owners, the 2483cc 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox are both reportedly OK.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
