Car was at auction in '09
classiccars.brightwells.com/viewdetails.php

Auction description:
Lot number 19
Hammer value £6,100
Description Daimler 250 V8
Registration YNP 14G
Year 1969
Colour Beige
Engine size 2,548 cc
Chassis No. P1K5564BW
Engine No. 7K5694

Dating from the last year of production, this 1969 250 V8 has had just four local owners from new, the third of whom owned it from 1987 until 2003 when it was acquired by the current vendor. He treated the car to new brake calipers all round (uprated Coopercraft units at the front) and a new exhaust system. It has since been in regular use and has completed two trips to the Le Mans 24-Hour race, four up, with no problems whatsoever. Said to be in generally good order throughout and to drive very well indeed, it is taxed for 11 months and has an MOT until September 2009.

The indicated mileage of 68,832 is warranted genuine and is backed up by most old MOTs back to 1986 and a fully stamped up service book from new until 1977 (at 50,406 miles) when it was serviced no fewer than 18 times (an average service interval of just 2,800 miles). Complete with all its original handbooks, it is still fitted with its original Ecko radio set and accompanying operating manual. Altogether a good honest car with a known history from new that has always lived in the Worcestershire area.

1969 Daimler 250 V8

Guide Price: £8,000 to £10,000

Registration No:  YNP 14G

Mileometer:  72,515

Chassis No:  P1K5564BW

MOT:  Exempt

Colour:  Ascot Fawn

The 1969 Daimler 250 V8 offered here was subject to a restoration, including a bare metal respray, about twelve years ago, with a DVD to show this. The vendor purchased the car 10 years ago, and in that time he has also improved the car with a rear brake overhaul, costing £1,500 at 72,000 miles. A stainless steel exhaust, reconditioned PAS, prop-shaft bearing, and front brakes at 69,000 miles cost £3,000. A carb and cylinder-head overhaul at 69,000 miles cost £1,200, and a reconditioned starter and a tyre at 68,500miles cost £150.

The car is said to run and drive well, and the restoration work has held up well. There is a good amount of paperwork and history with the car, that shows just how well it has been looked after and loved over the years. The Daimler V8 Saloons are now becoming popular and prices are starting to rise, but they still represent excellent value compared to the Jaguar Mk II.

Hampson Marketplace timed auction 24th January - 2nd February

Lot 7

1969 Daimler 250 V8

RESERVE MET One of the very last to leave Browns Lane, comprehensive history file

Registration – YNP 14G

Chassis No. – P1K5564BW

M.O.T. – Exempt

Odometer – 72,964

1969, from which ‘YNP14G’ hails, was the last year of production of the Daimler V8 250. Its chassis number reveals it to be just 216 cars from the last right hand drive example produced. As such ‘YNP14G’ represents the final, facelifted iteration of this luxury sports saloon with its slimline bumpers, overriders and padded dash top roll. Essentially a rebadged MKII Jaguar, the 2.5 V8 as it was known at launch in1962, became the first Daimler to be offered on Jaguar underpinnings and the last to feature a Daimler engine. And what an engine. ‘YNP14G’ is fitted with the highly prized 2.5-litre V8, Edward Turner designed powerplant mated to a three speed Borg Warner type D1/D2 automatic transmission.

Presenting today with a sensible, seemingly genuine 72,964 miles recorded, with less than 2,000 of those added since 2018. ‘YNP14G’ has been the subject of a thorough restoration a little over 10 years ago. This included professionally stripping and respraying the body shell. A replacement gearbox was fitted in 1978, a stainless steel exhaust installed around 4,000 miles ago together with the power steering system being reconditioned, and a new prop shaft bearing fitted. The front brakes were overhauled at the same time, while the rear brakes were replaced around 1,000 miles ago. In the last few months two new rear tyres have been fitted, a service with new engine oil and filter has been undertaken and a modern, spin-on oil filter conversion performed. All wheel arches have been cleaned and re-undersealed as a precautionary measure. ‘YNP14G’ is offered complete with an extensive file of provenance providing paperwork, which includes original handbooks and radio operating instructions as well as the service book with a full 28 stamps inside. All the old MOTs are included, as are the original Daimler documents with service chart.

‘YNP14G’ presents very well in the charming period hue of Ascot Fawn. This together with just the right amount of chrome brightwork, the signature Daimler fluted radiator cowl and the distinctive “partial spats” at the rear ensure that this Daimler saloon remains a real head turner today. The interior is veritable sea of crimson, box pleated leathers, walnut veneers, chromed fittings and sumptuous wool carpeting. The originality quotient is appealingly high and the overall condition of ‘YNP14G’ is vendor rated as “good” throughout. What a rare and tempting example of this exclusive Daimler sports saloon.
