Any fan of endurance racing knows of Jaguar’s prowess in sports cars in the 1950s, but the company’s sedans sometimes remain off the radar to all but the most discerning of fans. This 1959 Jaguar Mark VIII sedan offered here is an exceptionally rare British luxury saloon that seems and looks exceptionally tidy. It is best described as a very beautiful, well cared for example of this model.

Stainless steel exhaust.

This Mark VIII shares its 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six XK engine with the XK140 sports car.

Fed by a pair of SU sidedraft carburetors, it was rated by Coventry at 190 horsepower.

The engine bay presents as exceptionally clean.

The Borg-Warner three-speed automatic works well and shifts properly.

Body clean and straight. Paint is beautiful.

Mechanically sound - drives just like a MK8 Jaguar should.

Interior is nice - Lovely leather upholstery, new carpet. All of the burled-wood veneer that forms the dashboard and other interior panels, including the dual folding rear-seat tables, is in very good, tidy condition. The four-spoke steering wheel aligns properly, as judged by the position of the emblem in the hub. Original headliner.

This Jaguar Mark VIII is fitted with a manual sunroof.

Door and window seals are in good condition.

The chrome trim is in very good condition.

All exterior / interior lighting function properly.

Very clean boot with spare wheel and jack.

This 1958 Jaguar Mark VIII can be best described as a very sound example that loves to be driven.

A most elegant, rare classic car, that provides Grace, Pace and Space - this charming example is perfect for family and friends to enjoy the kind of luxurious motoring, that only Jaguar is able to offer.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
