This 1965 Jaguar S-Type was sold new to an owner in Southern California and was purchased out of Arizona by the seller’s late father in mid-2020. Powered by a 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, the car is finished in green over beige leather upholstery. It rides on 15″ steel wheels with hubcaps and is further equipped with an independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, dual SU carburetors, a dual exhaust system, driving lights, burl wood interior trim, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. This S-Type is now offered by the seller on behalf of his mother with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a service manual, and an Iowa title in the names of the seller’s parents.
Finished from the factory in Opalescent Dark Green, the car was repainted in that color under previous ownership, the seller tells us. Exterior details include a Leaper hood ornament, driving lights, fender-mounted mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, and wraparound chrome bumpers with overriders.
Body-color 15” steel wheels wearing polished Jaguar-branded hubcaps and trim rings are mounted with Pirelli tires. The car features four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear units.
The individual front seats and the rear bench are trimmed in beige leather that extends to the center console and door panels. Burl wood veneers adorn the dashboard as well as the door caps and window surrounds. Interior appointments include a push-button Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, a heater, front lap belts, and door pockets.
A two-spoke steering wheel with a semi-circular horn ring is paired with a column-mounted shifter. Instrumentation consists of a Smiths 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and centrally mounted auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level as well as a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 16k miles and is said to have rolled over once; approximately 200 miles were added under current ownership.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is fed by twin SU carburetors and was rated at 220 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque when new.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers, build and dispatch dates in July 1964, and a corporate initial owner in Pasadena, California.
The serial number P1B75715BW is shown on the data plate above, whereas the Iowa title lists a VIN of that sequence prepended by the characters “J65”.
