Auction description:
Lot number 55
Hammer value N/S (est. No Reserve)
Description Daimler 2.5 Litre V8
Registration HON 617D
Year 1966
Colour Silver
Engine size 2,548 cc
Chassis No. P1A11788BW
Engine No. 7A12408

This particular car is an earlier model with the desirable deep bumpers and comes with a Heritage Certificate confirming its date of manufacture as 5th August 1966. The car apparently spent most of its early life in sunny Jersey, hence the excellent, original appearance of the bodywork and structure which does not bear any signs of significant previous restoration. Unlike many restored cars, all the panel gaps are excellent and the doors open and shut beautifully. The red leather interior is in good original condition and all the woodwork is also good.

The car was re-imported back to England in 2001 when it was bought by the current vendor from the E-Type Centre in Warwickshire. It has a full service history from this date proving that it has been well looked after since then. This includes a full Waxoyl treatment in 2001; new gearbox and propshaft mountings in the same year; new door and boot rubber seals; new Kevlar coolant hoses and a recored, uprated radiator; a new fuel pump in 2002; rebuilt carbs and distributor in 2005.

Always garaged by the current vendor and kept in regular, gentle use, the car was last serviced less than 300 miles ago, is MOTd until August 2007 and is said to drive beautifully with the desirable option of power assisted steering. The indicated mileage of 78,500 is believed to be genuine. It comes complete with an original owner's manual and a very comprehensive factory workshop manual which will help to keep it in good condition for many years to come.

Although the paintwork has lost some of its original lustre, this is still an exceptionally nice, unmolested example of these beautifully refined saloons which needs to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
