This particular car is an earlier model with the desirable deep bumpers which distinguish it from the later slim-line bumpers fitted to the cost-cutting 250 model. Supplied new to JC Stables of Sevenoaks in September 1966, it was kept by him for 31 years and has only had one keeper since. Meticulously maintained throughout its life, it has a full service history from new and has covered a warranted 80,000 miles.
In 1980 the car was treated to a full body restoration and resprayed in the elegant Dove Grey paintwork you see today. In 1998 the outer sills were replaced by the current vendor and the front crows-feet have also been recently renewed. The bodywork on the car is exceptionally sound and straight with good panel gaps all round.
The car was also treated to a full engine strip and rebuild less than 10,000 miles ago, with new big end shells and piston rings, and is said to perform very well indeed using virtually no oil – with surprisingly good performance and handling if you are in the mood to hustle it along. The owner states that the only known fault is a slight transmission fluid leak if the car is left standing for some time.
The original red leather interior is in very nice condition with a lovely patina, as is all the woodwork. Carpets and headlining have been replaced at some time and are in excellent shape. The car further benefits from a full stainless steel exhaust system, a set of five wire wheels and still retains its original toolkit in the boot – although one or two of the tools have gone astray over the years. Most unusually for one of these cars, the clock also works perfectly.
Supplied with a large history file from new, all its original handbooks, some petrol rationing coupons and even the original glossy sales brochure, the car is currently taxed and has an MOT until November 2008. Altogether a most attractive and well cared for example that seems ready for many more decades of faithful and stylish motoring.
