This 1967 Jaguar 420G was acquired by the previous owner in 1979 and was refurbished before being used until 1988 and parked in storage. The seller purchased the car as a project in early 2019, and a subsequent refurbishment that was completed in 2022 involved repainting the car in two-tone silver and black, retrimming the interior in red leather, and rebuilding the 4.2-liter inline-six. Equipment includes a three-speed automatic transmission, three SU carburetors, dual fuel tanks, dual exhaust, bright hubcaps and trim rings, four-wheel disc brakes, a wood dashboard and door caps, a Blaupunkt push-button AM/FM radio, power windows, and rear tray tables. This left-hand-drive 420G is now offered at no reserve in Canada with spare parts, service records, service manuals, a tool kit, and Nova Scotia registration in the seller’s name.

Like the related 420 saloon, the 420G debuted for 1967 and was an evolution of Jaguar’s Mk X; the 420G rode on a 120.0″ wheelbase and measured 202.0″ in length—increases of 12.6″ and 14.2″, respectively, compared with the 420. Around 1979, this car is said to have been sandblasted, rust in the rocker panels and the floors was repaired, and the body was repainted. In 2019, the seller had the chrome and trim removed, and the vehicle was repainted in two-tone silver and black, reportedly by Vintage Vibe Restorations of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the weatherstripping was replaced. A red accent line separates the two colors, and other equipment includes a fluted grille, a “leaper” hood ornament, a cowl vent, dual exhaust exits, and chrome bumpers and trim.

Black-painted 14″ steel wheels wear Jaguar-branded hubcaps and bright trim rings and are mounted with 215/75 Toyo Extensa A/S tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted discs, with inboard rotors at the rear axle. The brakes were overhauled during the most recent refurbishment, with replacement of the calipers, rotors, pads, and lines as well as installation of a remote bleeder kit for the rear and rebuilding of the master cylinder. The rear cage and the body mounts were replaced, and the rear end was refreshed with replacement seals and bearings.

The cabin features individual front seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in red vinyl. The woodwork was removed and redone during the refurbishment, and the carpeting and door cards were replaced. The Blaupunkt push-button radio is wired to replacement speakers, and the car also has a power antenna, power windows, a clock, and rear-seat tray tables.

The two-spoke steering wheel has a horn ring and sits ahead of a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer as well as auxiliary gauges positioned at the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 6k miles, approximately 2,600 of which were added under current ownership. The seller states that the odometer has rolled over once; true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six was bored .030″ over and rebuilt in 2019, with work that also involved polishing the crankshaft .010″, rebuilding the triple SU carburetors, cleaning the dual fuel tanks, and replacing the pistons, connecting rods, valves, valve guides, timing chains and guides, rings, bearings, seals, fuel pumps, and fuel lines. The car was serviced most recently in August 2023, according to the seller.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. The car is fitted with a stainless-steel exhaust system.

Receipts from current ownership, shop and parts manuals, a tool kit, and spare parts including a transmission, a rear end, and a grille will accompany the vehicle.

The chassis number is G1D76995BW, whereas the Nova Scotia registration document omits the leading letter “G”.

The vehicle does not have a title and is being sold on its Nova Scotia registration, which serves as the ownership document in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
