Sellers description:
This car has been in my garage for 20 years, and in the previous owner's barn for 20 years. No attempt has been made to clean off the accumulated dirt of 40 years storage. Car originally was sidelined due to the hill holder solenoid locking on, which freaked out the original owner, who vowed never to drive, or let anyone else drive, it again! When he died, his brother inherited it. The brother removed the front right fender and some of the trim, and then lost interest. The car sit for a few years in that condition, after which I bought it. I've ecently verified the engine turns, and put back some of the trim he removed, but other than that, the car is as it was when I had it flat bedded home 20 years ago. I've always wanted one of these, and have had several others during the time I've owned this one, but this was my first. I had hoped to someday completely restore the car, but I can see that my rapidly advancing age will never allow me to see that day. This is the epitome of the Mk series cars, since it has the 3.8 litre (shared with the XK150, and arguably the most sporting engine Jaguar ever produced), and four wheel disc brakes, one of the first saloon cars to be offered with them. It's a sports car with a saloon body.
The car does NOT run. This car has its original 3.8 litre engine. The engine turns. The car has the original transmission. Condition of the transmission is unknown. The car has no functioning brakes. Rear brake calipers are in the boot, having been removed by previous owner (not realizing all he needed to do to unlock the hill holder was unplug the wire to the solenoid). Carbs are in the boot, as well. I removed them and had them re-built by Joe Curto a few years ago. They're still in the bags he returned them in. The car steers properly. The tires on the car hold air, but they're 40+ years old and mis-matched. There are five tires, including the spare in the boot. All of the doors, bonnet, boot, and windows function properly and close securely. The right fuel filler door is disconnected at the hinge. The fuel tanks were removed and cleaned, and put back a few years ago. I have all the keys to the car. A spare 3.8 litre engine and DG250 automatic transmission are available, if you want them.
The condition of the interior is quite good. Leather is hard, but should be saveable with some leather conditioner like leatherique or hide food. The rear seat is in amazing condition. The front seat isn't bad, but has a split or two. The headliner has some damage. The woodwork is solid, without veneer lift, but could stand re-finishing. The carpets are 40 years old. The over-rug is in very good condition. The dash under-tray is off, but included and in serviceable condition. An extra set of upholstery in the same color and similar condition is included, if you want it.
The tool boxes are full. See the pictures. The trim around the rear window is included. There are two front bumpers for the car not presently on the car. There are two rear bumpers for the car, one of which is on the car. There are five new goodyear wide whitewall tires and inner tubes that you can have if you want them. They're new, still wrapped in factory plastic, but dated, IIRC, about 10 years ago.
The exterior has surface rust, but is very solid. Except for some over-zealous primer shot on by the previous owner when he was storing the car for his brother, it's got original paint. From what I can see, the frame is completely solid. The body is very solid except for three areas: left sill below the doors, which has rust through and, IMO, should be replaced; right sill below the doors, which has minor rust through and may be repairable, and the rear valance underneath the bumper, which has rust through and should be removed (you can barely see it unless you sit on the ground) or replaced. None of these areas are structural, since this is a body on frame car. I've included pictures of the undercarriage, so you can see what I'm talking about. For a Mk IX, this would be considered "not rusty at all" since most, by now, are rust-holed up to the windows! Take a magnet to a "restored" Mk IX and you'll see what I mean: bondo usually all the way up to the windows. Reproduction panels and trim are available for the car. Most of the "chrome" you see is actually stainless steel, and will shine up with some elbow grease.
In the pictures, you may notice items obviously not on the car. Except for the swage trim on the right front fender, I believe EVERYTHING else is in the boot of the car in boxes. That includes the air filter assembly, Jaguar emblem for the boot, carbs, lights, etc...
The go-jacks in the pictures are NOT included.
The car must be removed by trailer or roll-back. You cannot drive it home.
