Auction description:
VINTAGE AND CLASSIC CARS, MOTORCYCLES AND AUTOMOBILIA SATURDAY 4TH DECEMBER 2004
Lot No 632
1962 Jaguar MKII 3.8 MOD, by Roger Brotton of Barnsley
Registration Number: WSL 958
Chassis Number: 221058 DN
Engine number: ZA7269-8
Originally supplied in left-hand drive form to Italy, this particular example was converted to right-hand drive during an extensive rebuild by Roger Brotton of Barnsley approximately four years ago. Although, the documentary evidence no longer exists, cosmetic work done at the time is said to have included a bare metal re-spray, chromework refurbishment (with the majority of components either renewed or re-plated), partial re-trim, new door / windscreen seals and refinishing of the wood veneers. While mechanically, it is it is believed to have benefited from a new wiring loom, fresh rubber suspension mounts, replacement springs (front and rear) and a brake system overhaul. Sundries such as the tyres and exhaust are also understood to have been replaced. Benefiting from a later ‘straight-port’ cylinder head and high capacity radiator (better suited to modern traffic), WSL 958 has enjoyed regular usage. Yet despite this, its underside remains in excellent order. Finished in opalescent silver blue with grey leather upholstery, it is described by the vendor as being in good to very good overall condition. The subject of a recent specialist gearbox overhaul, its overdrive is said to function correctly. Boasting new carpets supplied by Suffolk & Turley, it comes with an original type toolkit. Offered for sale with V5 registration document, Heritage Certificate, MOT current until June 2005 and historic class (free) road tax.
Estimate: £14,000-16,000 Result: £10800

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
