Lot No: 324
1961 Jaguar Mark II 3.8 litre Saloon
Registration no. 444 KYC
Chassis no. 203105 DN
Estimate: £18,000 - 22,000
This car was first registered on 8th February 1961 to Col. Reginald Scott-Rogers of London, later passing to his son. The car completed just 16,000 miles or so before being laid up in 1973 for many years. Rescued for preservation, the car was found to be in exceptionally original condition and a major restoration was undertaken to restore the Jaguar to excellent condition, retaining originality where appropriate but carrying out considered modifications to enhance the driving experience. These included the fitting of electronic ignition, power steering from a Jaguar 420, the fitting of a stainless steel exhaust system with six-branch manifold and the installation of a modern air filter (the original is offered with the car). The car was the subject of a bare metal respray in Gunmetal Grey, the upholstery was Connolised and new carpets and headlining fitted. Veneer cappings and dashboard were professionally polished. Specification includes twin spot lamps, over-riders, picnic tables in the front seat backs and a Nardi Torino three-spoke wood rim steering wheel is fitted. At the time of cataloguing the recorded mileage, believed genuine, is just 16,789 miles.
This distinctive car is offered with a Heritage Certificate, Irish documentation for its present Irish historic number, ZV 5777, a photocopy of its old V5 document which may enable its original UK registration number, 444 KYC, to be retained, a quantity of old MoT certificates and tax discs. It comes also with its original tool kit (missing the adjustable spanner), Operating Manual and a useful maintenance wall chart. Eligible for so many events this top-of-the-range Mark II Saloon reflects confirmed provenance, low mileage, sensible modifications to running specification and careful restoration.
