    Auction description:
    Jaguar MK 2 3.8
The Brooklands Tradition', BCA (8th June 2006)
    Overview
An early model of the Mk 2 dating from 1960, this 3.8-litre model has been in the care of its current owner for the past fourteen years and is understood to have been restored during 1992. At this time, a full repaint was undertaken along with an engine rebuild and the replacement of the original Borg-Warner gearbox with a later unit. The car's mechanical condition is reported as being good throughout and the tan interior trim has been replaced at some point. The car sits on wire wheels and is understood to be bodily and structurally sound, although we are advised that it would benefit from some attention to various paint chips and rust spots.Much history whilst in this ownership is provided, along with a registration document attesting to the distinctive number, 5777 D. An MOT certificate valid until 15th January 2007 is also included

Car to be at auction 4/18

    Lot No. 62
    Registration Date 1959
    Make & Model Jaguar Mk2 3.8
    Colour British Racing Green
    Registration Number 627UYK
    Chassis No. 200625BW
    Engine size 3,781 cc
    Engine No. LA3419-8
V5C, 18 MOTs, Owners and Workshop Manuals
    Estimate £24,000 - £26,000

The lovely example offered here was first registered on the 17th March 1960 which makes it amongst the earliest Mk2s made. It features the recessed sun visors and Mk1 type air filter found on very early Mk2s. From the history file it appears to have had a major restoration in 1992, and an engine rebuild in 1998. Now fitted with a 3.8 engine probably from a Jaguar Mk10 which was a common upgrade as the later engine had thicker walls and was therefore stronger. It has a later Mk2 alloy sump that is a good replacement for the leaky tin original. Originally fitted with an automatic gearbox it has been upgraded with a Getrag 5 speed manual box which makes it a much more practical proposition on modern roads.

The current vendor bought the car in 2016 and it's obvious from the overall condition and the number of bills in the history that it has been well looked after and improved by the 9 former keepers. In 2016 it had an alternator conversion, 123 electronic ignition, Flamethrower coil and plug leads. Also that year he treated it to an EZ power steering upgrade which overcomes the heavy steering Mk2s are renowned for.

In 2017 bills show an alloy race radiator was fitted, with a new fan and shroud. Also a brand new set of Blockley tyres, on what appear to be Series 2 E Type chrome wire wheels that are in great condition.

The odometer reads 16,480 miles, but this should read about 103,000 as records show it had a replacement in 1998 when reading 99,900. It has just had a fresh MOT valid until 19th February 2019. The original Owner's Manual is present, along with 18 old MOTs, old tax discs a workshop manual, and a spare set of rear wheel spats. It has a rare complete Mk2 toolkit in its specially shaped box.

Sporting the most desirable colour combination of British Racing Green, with an immaculate tan hide interior this has to be the Mk2 to have if you want a car that be properly driven, and at the estimate it is likely that it will prove to be great investment too!

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
