Ebay item 3/18/08 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-MkII-2-5L-V8-Jaguar-Daimler-2-5-V8_W0QQitemZ16021 ...
Opening bid $4,500 reserve not met, no bids yet, 6 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
Bought the car on Martha’s Vineyard in 1998 and now it’s time to move on to a Mini Cooper. The car had been imported from the UK in 1986 and was used as a daily driver on the Island. The car was purchased with 29,120 on the odometer and it now has 41,200. This probably is 141,000. The car was used in the summer and was stored in a climate controlled garage. The car was repainted by the previous owner. Paint condition is good/fair, but a good buffing might improve the situation. The original color was a champagne or light gold. This car shares the same body with the Jaguar Mk2. Most recent Daimler automobiles have simply been "badge engineered" versions of current production Jaguar sedans. The main differences between the Jaguar automobile and the Daimler automobile is the distinctive Daimler fluted grill, upgraded upholstery, and woodwork. The 2.5L V8 has aluminum hemi cylinder heads and twin SU’s. The engine was originally designed by Edward Turner of Triumph motorcycle fame and was also used in the SP250 Dart. The V8 Daimler was a popular car for the police forces in the UK and it was frequently used in British films and TV series.
The current owner has done many repairs and restoration work to the car. These include a rebuilt Borg Warner model 35 automatic transmission, spring replacement, rebuilt brakes, starter, water pump, fan clutch and generator. The fuel pump and portions of the exhaust system have also been replaced. The interior was redone in leather by Bassett’s of Rhode Island to the tune of $3800 and the wood was removed and refinished at a cost of over $3000. A JVC radio and CD played have been added with a 12 disc CD storage unit in the trunk.
Problems with the car include a slight ignition miss under load. I have not determined if this is a plug wire or problem with one cylinder, but I suspect that a top end job might be in the near future. No smoke is visible on startup or acceleration. There is minor rust on the right front fender and the left rear door. The underside of the car and the rocker panels appear to have been repaired at some point in time. There also is a problem with the slip ring assembly for the horn in the steering column which will have to be repaired. The chrome bumpers are in good condition. The remaining chrome trim is good condition with very minor pitting on the pot metal portions of the chrome. One of the retaining clips for the rear window chrome is missing it will need to be replaced.
