When you think about it, putting a small V8 into what was regarded as the finest handling sporty sedan of the period makes perfect sense, so little wonder the Daimler 2.5 V8 became what’s said to be still the marque’s most popular model ever. It’s ironic then, despite that, the Daimler 2.5 V8 is regularly overlooked by classic enthusiasts for the car upon which it’s based, the Jaguar Mk 2. Having been originally purchased from a distant family member, our Daimler 2.5 now needs some further refurbishment. Most obviously, something has gone wrong with a repaint at some stage, so that the white duco has bubbled on the bonnet, boot lid and guard tops, plus there’s a large chip to the trailing edge of the driver’s door. The exterior chrome work is good though, and it sits on a nice set of steel wheels with hubcaps. Inside, the cream leather is original and shows plenty of creasing, and it has cracked in several places as well. The Daimler’s woodwork appears to have been redone and looks excellent, the headlining is good (though the rear roof light is loose) and the carpets are decent. A non-period Pioneer stereo has been fitted in an otherwise standard interior. It’s also been fitted with a stainless steel muffler and exhaust. The details that need attention can be dealt with, at the end of which you’d have an excellent and enjoyable classic for a relatively small investment. The 1967 Daimler 2.5 V8 is being sold here unregistered and at No Reserve.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
