Auctin description:
1959 Jaguar Mk2 3.8-Litre ‘Coombs Replica’ Saloon
Sports, Competition & Collectors' Motor Cars, Bonhams (24th June 2005)
Overview
An early Mk2 (the right-hand drive chassis number sequence commenced at ‘150001’) with manual plus overdrive (as per the DN chassis no. suffix) this car began life as a 3.4-litre model and has been rebuilt (with 3.8-litre engine) in the style of the racing Mk2 saloons prepared and entered by Guildford Jaguar dealer John Coombs in the early 1960s. Finished in Indigo Blue with matching leather interior, the car features Coombs-type modifications – apparently undertaken by ex-Coombs employees - including louvred bonnet, flared wheelarches, triple SU carburettors and twin upturned tailpipes. The vehicle is offered with Swansea V5 registration document. An iconic classic.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
