1959 Jaguar Mk IX

Location: Bellingham, Washington. Previously Kirkland, Washington
Chassis: 791550BW
96k Miles Shown
3.8-Liter Inline-Six
Four-Speed GM Automatic Transmission
White and Maroon Paint
Black Leather Upholstery
16" Steel Wheels
Private Party or Dealer: Private Party
Lot #252685
This 1959 Jaguar Mk IX is finished in white and maroon over black leather, and it is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked with a GM four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a sunroof, power-assisted disc brakes, power steering, 16″ steel wheels with hubcaps, bench seats, and rear picnic tables. This Mk IX was acquired by the seller in 2016 and is now offered at no reserve with service records, notes from a prior owner, a car cover, luggage, and a Washington title in the seller’s name, listing the car as a 1961 model.
This car is one of 10,009 Mk IX examples produced during the three-year production run. Maroon paint was added to the lower bodywork under prior ownership, and exterior equipment includes a manually operated sunroof, fender-mounted side mirrors, rear fender skirts, driving lights, and bumpers with overriders. The seller notes that the trunk gasket leaks.
The 16″ steel wheels feature hubcaps and trim rings and are mounted with whitewall tires measuring 205/70. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted discs at each corner.
The cabin houses front and rear bench seats upholstered in black leather, and interior appointments include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a push-button AM/FM radio, rear picnic tables, a rear-area Smith clock, and a heater. Replacement seat foam was installed under prior ownership and the wood trim was refinished in the 1980s. The radio doesn’t work, and wear is noted on the front seat and driver’s carpet. There is a tear in the trunk liner.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a walnut veneer dashboard with centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock as well as a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 96k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership.
The replacement 3.8-liter inline-six was installed in the early 2000s and features an oil cooler and 14″ electric fan. The seller notes various oil leaks and states that the car recently had an issue starting in colder weather. The seller also reports that the batteries will be replaced prior to the sale.
A four-speed GM automatic transmission sourced from a late 1980s Chevrolet Camaro was installed in the early 2000s, along with a replacement rear cross member and shorter driveshaft.
Historic photos of the car are included in the sale along with notes from a prior owner.
The Washington state title is listed as a duplicate and carries a “Classic” brand. The VIN on the title omits the “BW” suffix on the VIN.
