1958 Jaguar Mark IX Saloon
2012 The Houston Classic Auction
Offered Without Reserve
ESTIMATE: $40,000 - $ 50,000
CHASSIS NO: 760110BW
Lot Number 32
A Stunning Survivor Example of the Early Mark IX A Powerful and Luxurious Sporting Saloon Car Long Part of a Prestigious Northwestern Collection of Fine Cars
Engine No: N6124-8
Gearbox No: 10116
Body No: A001124
3,781cc inline six-cylinder dual overhead-cam engine producing 220 horsepower at 5,400 RPM, twin Skinners Union carburetors, three-speed Borg Warner DG250 automatic gearbox, independent torsion bar front suspension, rear live-axle with leaf springs and four-wheel hydraulically-operated disc brakes; wheelbase: 120"
Offered here is such an exceptional Jaguar. Hailing from Devon in the south of England, this home-market, right-hand drive 1958 Jaguar Mark IX resided in Oregon until very recently. Still wearing its April of 1976 MOT on the windscreen, the car exhibits tremendous patina over a pleasingly solid body. The Mark IX has recently been serviced and maintained and is a good, complete running and driving example of the marque. Inside, amenities include a newer AM/FM cassette player as well as all the great luxury items with which the car was originally equipped. The vendor believes the car to have only the 39,752 miles stated on the odometer from brand new.
Whether a rare addition for the collector demanding originality or just as a fair-weather touring car for any enthusiast, this exceptional example of Jaguar's finest post-war saloon is an excellent choice.

This car is apparently misdescribed . It is a mark VIII, to judge from the chassis no., and confirmed by the heater and battery layout , but with quite a lot of Mark IX features such as the steering wheel with indicator stalk, power steering, clockwise tacho etc. Quite how it came by these is something of a mystery
