1953 Jaguar C-Type Recreation
This C-Type is a sought-after recreation of the iconic 1950s 24 Hours of Le Mans racer, rebuilt from 2011 to 2017, from a 1953 Mark VII donor.
Power comes from a 3.4-litre XK straight-six, coupled to a five-speed Evolution E-Types manual gearbox with XK bell housing and a limited-slip Salisbury differential.
With original C-Types being multi-million-dollar cars, this represents an opportunity to acquire an impressive homage at a fraction of the cost.
The odometer shows 8,527 miles, but this is not warranted.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The elegant aluminium bodywork of this head-turning C-Type recreation is finished in British Racing Green (with stickered emblems on the bonnet and doors that will be removed on sale).
It rides on 16-inch wire wheels with two-eared steel hubs, wrapped in Dunlop Racing tyres.
The engine is a 3.4-litre XK engine featuring D-type cams, mild head porting, high-compression pistons, a correct cast alloy C-Type oil sump, triple Weber 45 CDOE carburettors, a C-Type alloy radiator, an electronic ignition, an electric self-engaging thermo fan system, and a dual-exit Le Mans-style stainless ceramic-coated exhaust.
Equipment includes a tonneau cover, a billet aluminium V&A Spiteri brake calliper upgrade with C-Type discs, rack-and-pinion steering, and a reverse-sweep tachometer.
Accompanying the vehicle will be a copy of the Production Record Trace Certificate for chassis 717057, as well as a maintenance log, and collection of invoices and technical documents.
CONDITION
The car received a full professional respray from blue to British Racing Green and the seats were professionally recoloured from blue to green in August 2022.
Specific notes from the seller include: a minor cosmetic mark near the removable boot cover from a gentle roll-forward by a 1948 Rolls-Royce while parked.
SERVICE HISTORY
In 2025, the car received an extensive mechanical refresh with Smart Restoration, including the refitting and alignment of a rebuilt gearbox and clutch, a differential rebuild with new bearings, seals and limited-slip components, replacement of suspension bushes, and a brake system overhaul. The fuel-tank mounts were repaired, and the electrical, lighting and handbrake systems were serviced.
Maintenance in 2024 included installation and commissioning of the rebuilt XK engine, including wiring, cooling and exhaust alignment, running-in adjustments including carburettor tuning, ignition setup, ride-height correction and chassis alignment, replacement of engine mounts, brake-fluid bottles and completion of full fluid servicing, suspension geometry corrections, electrical repairs including fusebox servicing and lighting fault correction, and exhaust manifold and oil-leak repairs.
Work in 2023 included mechanical tuning to improve drivability and engine/driveline running, electrical system repairs including circuit corrections and fault tracing, and some preventative servicing.
The current owner purchased in 2022 and commissioned a full respray of the C-Type recreation, including sanding cracked rivets and dents, masking for roundels, application of green paint and clear coat, painting of removed panels, and final colour sanding and polishing, as well as recolouring of the Jaguar seats from blue to green, installation of a cut-off switch into the power circuit, and a PPF application.
