1951 Jaguar Mark V Drop Head Coupe in Nampa, Idaho

This Jaguar Mark V is a flagship luxury built from 1948 through 1951. This two door convertible, known as the ‘Drophead Coupe’ is one #289 of only 577 left hand drive cars built with the larger 3.5 liter engine. This Arizona car is finished in Suede Green with rear wheel ‘spats’ (fender skirts) and a 3 position convertible top with landau arms. Suicide doors, running boards and the elegant front grille with Jaguar hood ornament grace the front.

It is powered by a 3.5 liter overhead valve 6 cylinder paired with a 4 speed manual transmission. Factory independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes. It rolls on 16” rims with chrome hubcaps and trim rings and wide whitewall radials.

The interior features tan leather upholstery, door panels, and cut pile carpeting. Burled walnut veneer instrument panel and door trimmings, full gauges including tachometer.

This 1951 Jaguar Mark V drophead coupe is a left-hand-drive model that spent many years with its first owner in Tucson, Arizona, and remained in the state until 2020, when it was purchased by a collector in Washington. A repaint in green and an interior retrim in beige leather were carried out at some point in the car’s history, and it is believed to be a recipient of multiple awards from the Jaguar Clubs of North America over the years. Power comes from a 3.5-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes a three-position soft top, driving lights, landau bars, rear fender spats, burl wood trim, and Smiths gauges. Recently acquired by the selling dealer, this Mark V is now offered with historical documents and photos, a workshop manual, award plates, and a Montana title.

Chassis 647289 was first owned by Emilie Haugh, whose spouse, John Harms Haugh, was a longtime member of the Arizona House of Representatives. The car remained in her possession until at least 1969, as evidenced by historical documents accompanying the car.

The car has had a repaint in green, and details include a leaper hood ornament, driving lights, chrome landau bars, and rear fender spats. The selling dealer notes that the cream soft top is pulling away from the front and back of the framework, and the wood tack strips have rotted. Cracked and peeling paint around the car is visible along with a chip in the windshield.

Color-keyed steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and trim rings and are wrapped in BFGoodrich whitewall tires. The car rides on an independent torsion-bar front suspension and a live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. Braking is handled by hydraulic drums at all four corners.

The cabin has been reupholstered in beige leather, and burl wood trim accents the dashboard and door caps. A cabin heater is provided. Material is peeling away from the windshield trim and soft top bows, and wear on the upholstery can be viewed in the gallery.

The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges. An Equus coolant temperature gauge is mounted in the left glove compartment. The five-digit odometer does not work and currently shows 22k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

A tool compartment is built into the trunk lid. The selling dealer notes that some of the tools are missing.

The 3.5-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Corrosion is visible on underbody components.

JCNA award plates are included in the sale.

The Montana title carries an Antique brand.
