Vantaa, Finland

A charismatic and sought-after classic sporting saloon, this Jaguar MkII is a late-production example fitted with the desirable four-speed manual gearbox and overdrive.

While it left the production line as a ‘240’ model, it is now powered by a retrofitted naturally aspirated 3.4-litre inline-six engine with twin SU HD6 carburettors, producing around 216PS, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

First registered in May 1969 it was originally delivered to Ritchies, Glasgow, Scotland. The car is now registered in Finland, and taxes have been paid, and the seller notes they acquired the car from Lugano, Switzerland.

Originally delivered in right-hand-drive format, this saloon has been converted to left-hand drive and is reported to have benefited from a restoration during the late 2010s and early 2020s, including a full body refurbishment and repaint in British Racing Green, a comprehensive interior retrim, and an engine replacement.

The odometer indicates 82,519 miles, though this is not warranted.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

The Jaguar MKII is regarded as one of the most accomplished sporting saloons of its era, combining sharp performance with refined road manners, independent front suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes.

This example is finished in the iconic shade of British Racing Green, over a Sand Beige leather-trimmed interior, featuring a wood dashboard and window surrounds, and chrome trim highlights.

It rides on a set of 15-inch chrome cross-spoke wire wheels with two-spoke knock-offs, fitted with Ovation Eco Vision tyres.

Equipment includes leather bonnet tie-down straps, a two-spoke steering wheel, Smiths gauges, push-out front and rear quarter light windows, a push-button radio, and dashboard toggle switches.

The sale includes two ignition keys, an invoice relating to the recent service work, and some photographs documenting the recent restoration.

CONDITION

Specific notes from the seller include: the car has been fully repainted in British Racing Green as part of its recent restoration. Inside, the cabin was also fully renewed, including new seat upholstery, matching floor mats, a renewed headliner, and a new wooden dashboard top. There is a very small dent on the left-hand side sill, minor age-related wear to some chrome elements, some ageing to the lower wooden dashboard sections, and normal minor wear and tear to interior surfaces.

The seller notes that the radio is currently inoperative.

The car’s last roadworthiness inspection was carried out in February 2026 and is valid until February 2028, with no advisories reported.

SERVICE HISTORY

This MkII’s most recent maintenance was carried out in January 2026 at an indicated 82,520 miles by Grips Garage, a British classic car specialist, which included the renewal of the engine oil and filter, a brake fluid and coolant change, an inspection of transmission oils, the greasing of chassis and steering components, a brake adjustment, the installation of a new wooden dashboard cover, and the renewal and overhaul of the screen washer motor and system.

The seller states that in 2025, four shock absorbers and the battery were replaced, and new chrome wire wheels and tyres were fitted.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
