MOT ExpiryDate: March 2012
The right-hand drive S-Type offered, left Jaguar's Browns Lane factory in 1964 equipped with the more powerful 3.8-litre engine mated to an overdrive specification manual gearbox. Originally finished in Grey, it was resprayed in opalescent British Racing Green in the late 1990s as part of an extensive restoration carried out by renowned marque specialist Don Law - the total cost of which was £64,000. Two years ago, '6535 VT' was treated to a dual fuel conversion, so can now run on LPG as well as petrol. We understand the vendor is the fourth owner of the Jaguar and he informs us that his predecessor never actually used the car - the indicated, but unwarranted, mileage now stands at 92,801. He currently considers the bodywork, engine and manual transmission to be "excellent" and the paintwork and Red leather interior trim to be "very good". The Jaguar is taxed and MOT'd into March. A fine looking example of this increasingly sought after model.

Car returns to auction 6/26
www.handh.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-1964-jaguar-s-type-38-litre/
Auction description:

1964 Jaguar S-Type 3.8 Litre
Treated to a 2,271 hour restoration
Estimate £16,000 - £20,000
Registration No: 6535 VT
Chassis No: 1B52474DN
MOT: Exempt
Treated to an £80,000 / 2,271 hour restoration by marque specialist Don Law Racing from 1997 - 1999 (which would have cost over £250,000 today)
Subsequently improved by Royles Jaguar and Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth (the latter fitting Harvey Bailey suspension components etc)
Part of a private collection since 2011 and used for several long distance European Tours with maintenance and preparation work by Richardson Race & Restoration
Desirable specification includes the more powerful 3.8 litre engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive transmission, power steering and certified dual-fuel, petrol / LPG conversion
Initially granted the Isle of Ely numberplate ‘BEB 404B’ on December 1st 1964, chassis 1B52474DN belonged to Cyril Wickens Esq of nearby Fordham when the DVLA computerised its records during the late 1970s. Taken off the road in 1983, the Jaguar passed to Gerald Tams Esq eleven years later. A pottery magnate resident at Fradswell Hall, Mr Tams tasked marque specialist Don Law with substantially restoring the S-Type between 1997 and 1999. In total the cosmetic and mechanical work took 2,271 hours and cost some £68,275 excluding VAT (or £80,233 including VAT at the then rate of 17.5%). The paintwork was subcontracted to XK Engineering and numerous parts were sourced from Martin Robey but the majority of the expense was labour (£43,149 + VAT). Mr Law charges rather more than £19 per hour for these days meaning that the same project would cost over £250,000 today. Sadly, Mr Tams died before enjoying the car and it was down to his successor John Costello Esq to complete the de-bugging process with assistance from Royles Jaguar and Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth (the latter fitting Harvey Bailey suspension components etc). Becoming the sports saloon’s fourth registered keeper in 2011, the vendor used it for a variety of events including the VSCC’s Pomeroy Trophy and several trans Alpine sorties. Said to be ‘a highly accomplished long distance tourer’, ‘6535 VT’ benefits from a dual fuel (petrol / LPG) conversion that Mr Costello commissioned. Maintained and prepared for the seller by Richardson Race & Restoration of Tamworth (the associated bills totalling over £10,000), the Jaguar boasts a refurbished dynamo, reconditioned overdrive, retro-look stereo and uprated brake pads. Pleasingly retaining what it appears to be its original Red leather upholstery, this exceptional S-Type is offered for sale with V5C and history file.
