The 1956-introduced Jaguar saloons had unitary-construction bodyshells rather than separate chassis and bodies as hitherto had been the norm. The first was the Mk1, initially with 2.4-litre 6-cylinder engine, and from 1957, a 3.4 engine was also offered. However, to combat a skittish rear end and poor three-quarters rear visibility, a wider-tracked and thinner-pillared Mk2 with 3.4 and 3.8-litre options were available from 1959. The S Type was really an evolution of the Mk2, having restyled panels and the added refinement of independent rear suspension.
This 1964-built and right-hand drive 3.4 S Type saloon - which has the 4-speed manual gearbox with claimed to be working overdrive and is shod with wire wheels - has been in recent receipt of a brakes overhaul. The Yorkshire vendor tells us that discs and pipes have been replaced, while the suspension bushes and other wearing components have been renewed. He says that the bodyshell is in very good condition, the light blue metallic paintwork good, dark blue trim very good, and both the 3.4 six and transmission in very good order."
