the build plate is missing. the engine's two numbers match. the gearbox number is confirmed and documented (photos). the body number is intact on the right-side firewall. the chassis number listed here is supplied by Jaguar North American Archives based on those numbers. anyone who can accurately describe the location(s) of stamped chassis numbers is invited to pass along the info, as the car is well undercoated, making any numbers there undetectable without scraping.

The chassis number should be stamped on the bonnet (hood) striking panel,forward of the radiator top tank. It is usually to the right of the hole that locates the bonnet lock plunger.

thanks, anon...I have been directed there before..it may be that body repair has obliterated the numbers or even the metal section mamber itself...I haven't seen any obvious signs of that much repair, except the missing number, itself...the area has been 'worked' but still looks correct and possibly original...maybe some magic rubbing, ala CSI, will reveal a trace (it took a little brushing to see the lightly-stamped engine-block #, for example)..I have had two independent guesses that there is a number stamped on the left-front subframe near the suspnsion mounts, the undercoated area...still hoping to find that one, or at another possible, found on MK2's, under the rear bumper...in any case, this "Jagu-archeology" is kind of fun...thanks again for the information..(search continues)

No oil pressure!...luckily the failure sequence involved having to turn the engine off, whereupon a mis-installed pressure-relief valve finally 'rested' open instead of closed...so the only pressure-less revs were next start-up, and noticed quickly. Upshot is, a new oil pump (just because), a new pressure relief valve, and all the bearings replaced. The journals were measured and help confirm one rebuild (.010 under) as we had been told. And while dealing with that, we also took care of the rust in the LF frame member above the front suspension.
