This 1959 Jaguar MK IX was acquired by the seller in 2013 and subsequently underwent rust repair and a repaint in blue and white as well as replacement of its front seat upholstery, carpets, brake master cylinder, and exhaust system. Power is from a 3.8-liter inline-six that is said to be in need of a rebuild and is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional features include steel wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power-assisted steering, rear tray tables, and an aftermarket air conditioning system. This MK IX is offered as a project in Canada with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, and British Columbia registration in the seller’s name.
The car was refinished in blue and white in 2016, reportedly following rust removal. The seller notes rust bubbles on the bottom of the right rear door, below the parking lamps, and in the trunk floor. Exterior equipment includes driving lamps, fender mirrors, a sunroof, and bumper overriders.
Blue 16″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and 215/70 Michelin Latitude Tour tires. A chrome trim ring is also mounted at the left rear. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering and four-wheel disc brakes. The brake master cylinder was replaced in 2013, while the steering gearbox and pump were refurbished in March 2020.
The gray leather front bench seat covers and foam were replaced in 2014 along with the blue carpets. Tears are present on the rear seats. The burl wood dash houses dual gloveboxes and matches the window surrounds, folding rear seat trays, and locking rear storage cabinet. Additional equipment includes a dash-mounted rearview mirror, an AM/FM radio, an aftermarket air conditioning system installed in April 2018, and a clock for the rear passengers.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a column shifter and a gear indicator, while instrumentation includes a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock as well as a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows 36k miles, approximately 12k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter XK inline-six requires a rebuild and should not be run according to a June 2021 inspection report from RWM & Co. in Delta, British Columbia. The lower timing chain is loose and the hydraulic tensioner, intermediate timing gear bushing, front main bearing, and piston wrist pins are worn. The carburetors were rebuilt in August 2013, and the cylinder head was refurbished in 2015. The electrical system has been converted to negative ground with an alternator, and an aluminum radiator has been fitted.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission, which leaks fluid. A rusted portion of the frame was cut out and replaced in April 2013.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists factory specifications and a production date of October 15, 1958.
