This 1963 Jaguar Mk II sedan is said to have been acquired in 2018 by the seller, a Jaguar shop proprietor, from a customer who had reportedly owned it for the prior 15 years. Finished in Cream over black leather, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional features include four-wheel disc brakes, chrome 15” knock-off wire wheels, and a push-button AM radio. This running and driving Mark II project is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.

The car was factory finished in Cream and is equipped with chrome bumpers with over-riders and and dual side mirrors. Chipping paint can be seen in close-up shots included in the photo gallery, and rust is noted on the front passenger-side door.

Chrome-clad 15” wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and mounted with dry-rotted 165-series Dunlop tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs. A full-size spare is located in the trunk.

The cabin features seats trimmed in black leather along with matching door panels and carpets. Equipment includes a push-button AM radio, wood trim, toggle switches for vehicle functions, and picnic tables for the rear occupants mounted on the back of the front seats. Tears and worn upholstery on the seating surfaces can be seen.

Smiths instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock. Auxiliary gauges in the center stack include displays for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer is said to have rolled over and shows 1,700 miles. Approximately 100 miles have been added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six was factory rated at 220 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque. The seller states the engine runs poorly and is in need of maintenance.

Number LB 8505-8 is stamped on the cylinder head and block and matches the engine number on the firewall-mounted data plate, while the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate indicates engine number 5505-8.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a numbers-matching four-speed manual transmission equipped with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive. The seller states that third gear is difficult to shift into.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the factory colors, production and dispatch dates, and identification numbers.

Service records, a tool kit, and manufacturer’s literature are included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
