Sellers description:
1962 Jaguar Mark 2 3.8
s/n J62P216884BW, engine no. LB 3055-8
Old English White with Biscuit Leather Interior
This particular car is a lovely black plate California car that was comprehensively restored at great expense in 1998-1999 by its current owners, who have had the car for about forty years. There are over $59,000 in invoices with the car for the mechanical and cosmetic renewal of the car, including paint, chrome, interior, engine, suspension, brakes, electrical system. The car was completely stripped and redone to high standards. A new stainless exhaust from Falcon was fitted, and insulation added throughout the interior including the floors and firewalls. Additionally, a later GM Hydramatic transmission was fitted, which enhances drivability. The paint and bodywork were done by Images Auto Body in Campbell, California, and the mechanical work was done by Bill Price. The car has been carefully stored and used since, having covered just 1500 miles since the restoration was completed. The car was recently serviced and a tune up performed, including bleeding the brakes, setting the timing, mixture, and adjusting the carburetors, and fitting new spark plugs and ignition rotor. A new aluminum radiator was also just installed.
The car is cosmetically excellent and still presents very freshly. The paintwork was done to high standards and is virtually unmarked, with only a small stress crack above the front grille but no other significant issues to speak of. The panels are very straight throughout and fit well, but not perfectly. The chrome is excellent overall, with no pitting and only light scratching throughout, other than on the rear bumper, which has some pitting. The lights and glazing are excellent, as are the badges and other trim.
The interior is excellent, with exceptional wood which was refinished to a high gloss on par with a piano. The leather is excellent, with only the lightest of mellowing, and the wool carpets and headliner are also excellent. The instruments, switches and controls are equally nice and the interior has a universally fresh and correct appearance. The rear picnic tables are in excellent shape as well, as are the door panels. A modern stereo has been fitted.
The engine compartment is extremely clean with polished valve covers and intake components, and spotless inner fenders. The components have been correctly refinished and the engine compartment is generally correct in appearance other than the addition of the aluminum radiator. The engine block is matching but the head has been replaced at some point. The correct generator is still in place. The trunk was thoroughly restored as well, with new paint and new upholstery, which is of the correct color and material. The spare is in place as is the jack.
This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a beautifully and comprehensively restored Mark 2, which was obviously done as a labor of love. The car is in beautiful condition and is complete with extensive invoices from the restoration, photos from the restoration, jack, and spare.
