Auction description:
Body colour:White
Date Manufactured: 1961
Registration Number: 17 XAF
Chassis Number: P204399DN
Engine Number: LB27148
History:
This particular car is the desirable manual overdrive model and dates from 1961. After undergoing a full photo restoration in the early 1990s, including an engine-out repaint in the original white and a full interior re-trim by Aldridge Trimming, the car was then laid up for about ten years. Acquired by the current vendor in 2003, the car was despatched to classic Jaguar specialists CMC of Bridgenorth for a money-no-object recommissioning. Five months and over ?15,000 later it emerged in the condition you see today.
Works carried out by CMC included overhauling the entire braking system including the fitment of a new servo, new discs, new pipes and rebuilt calipers; complete suspension rebuild; fitment of new power steering; complete new wiring loom; rebuilt carburettors; new stainless steel exhaust; rebuilt sub-frames and new door skins all round.
Now said to go, handle and stop magnificently, this Jaguar is in excellent condition mechanically, structurally and bodily. A matching numbers car with lots of history going back to 1970, it is also still on its original, valuable registration number (17 XAF). MOTd until Feb 2007 it should need no significant work doing for many years to come.
A new set of chrome wire wheels would help to lift its appearance still further, but as it is it represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a thoroughly sorted example of this iconic saloon at a fraction of the cost that has been expended on it to date.
