M.O.T SEPT 2003
Following the 1956-launched new generation of smaller 2.4, 3.4 and then 3.8 saloons, a larger saloon model came to market in 1961. Again of unitary construction, the MkX was completely restyled and had coil spring front suspension, E Type independent rear suspension and power steering as standard. From 1964, the 4235cc 6-cylinder engine was fitted, and from 1966, the car became the 420 with new-look front end, also available with Daimler badging.
Only made for one year, the 420 has become rare, the example being offered here, which is said to be exceptionally sound having been recommissioned following dry storage, having the desirable options of both automatic transmission and chrome wire wheels. Cleverly combining luxury with Jaguar's legendary sports car performance and handling, the 1967 Coventry-made classic has been finished in blue and has blue leather interior with Wilton carpets. The vendor tells us that both MOT and tax disc will have been renewed by sale day and that he is sufficiently confident in its condition to drive it 300 miles to the auction.
Please Note: This vehicle is MOT'd until September 2003.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
