This 1967 Jaguar 420 was acquired out of California in 2011 by the seller who completed a refurbishment in 2021 that included a repaint in black over a reupholstered brown interior as well as rebuilds of its 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six and three-speed automatic transmission. Additional work included refreshing the four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, and suspension as well as the electrical and fuel-delivery systems. A stainless-steel exhaust system, 15″ wire wheels, electric door locks, and a digital media receiver have been added. This 420 is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and clean Washington title in the seller’s name.

The body was stripped prior to the application of epoxy primer and two-stage black paint, and the door, window, and trunk weather seals were replaced. Features include a fluted grille, quad headlamps, fender mirrors, polished window surrounds, and wraparound bumpers with overriders. The seller notes chrome pitting as well as rear-bumper dings and windshield chips.

Replacement 15″ wire wheels secured with branded two-eared knock-off nuts wear Milestar Touring SE whitewall tires showing 2012 date codes. Service of the servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes involved rebuilding and repainting the calipers, master cylinder, and servo as well as resurfacing the rotors. Metal suspension components were repainted after the shocks were refurbished or replaced and the rubber bushings and tie-rod ends were replaced. The power steering pump and rack were rebuilt and resealed.

The interior was reupholstered in brown with matching replacement door panels, a refurbished black dash pad, and replacement tan carpeting. Features include front bucket seats, replacement seat belts, front and rear center folding armrests, a heater/defroster, and a replacement clock. Electric door locks were installed along with a retro-style digital media receiver with FM radio reception, Bluetooth connectivity, and kick-panel speakers. Hardura was installed in the trunk.

The replacement three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a polished walnut dashboard fascia housing a 160-mph Smiths speedometer, a matching tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer indicates 69k miles, 100 of which were driven by the seller.

The 4.2-liter XK inline-six was factory-rated at 245 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque, and it breathes through a pair of rebuilt SU carburetors and a stainless-steel exhaust system. A overhaul under current ownership included replacing the piston rings, fuel and water pumps, alternator, and starter as well as the crank- and camshaft bearings and the engine mounts. The electrical system was refurbished with blade fuses operating on individual circuits, and an electronic ignition was installed along with an electric radiator fan and electric choke. The valve covers, breather, carburetor pots and air intake were powder-coated, and both fuel tanks were resealed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted Borg Warner Model 8 three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission was resealed and its mounts were replaced during the refurbishment.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date of March 20th, 1967, and distribution through Jaguar Cars of New York as well as the factory serial numbers and colors.

 Up for sale is this beautiful 1967 Jaguar 420 sedan. This vehicle has undergone a complete nut and bolt restoration in 2021 in California, before being purchased by our client on Bring A Trailer. The body was stripped down completely to bare metal prior to receiving an epoxy primer and two stage black paint. All seals were replaced at that time also. Beyond that, the four wheel disc brakes, power steering, suspension, complete electrical, and fuel delivery systems were all restored as well. A brand new stainless exhaust system was equipped, new 15" wire wheels, electric door locks and a digital head unit were all fitted to the car. The interior was completely reupholstered in a gorgeous brown leather as well as a new walnut dashboard fascia. The engine was completely overhauled including new rod and main bearings, piston rings, fuel pump and water pump, alternator, starter, valve covers, air intake, breathers and carb pots. Both fuel tanks were resealed as well. During our clients ownership an additional extensive amount of work was completed. Our technical genius, Roger Barr, completely rebuilt the dual SU carburetors. The car is also sold with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. There are a few flaws with the car that are worth a mention including a crack in the dashboard, a windshield chip(s), and some usual pitting in the bumper chrome. This all said, the car is a wonderful joy to operate and boasts a show quality appearance. The car is located in New Britain, CT, where you are welcome to come see it in all of its glory. Asking price is set to $38,500 which is but a small percentage of the overall investment into the restoration and preservation of this vehicle. Bob's Comments/Opinion:

Why would a restored car need the carburetors rebuilt in such a short time? It calls into question the quality of the restoration. If I remember correctly the seats are not leather and they are not a Jaguar color. Its a nice car but the price is very high.

The BAT Auction, 2 people got into a bidding war and one of them realized the the price was too high and dropped out. I've talked to the person who dropped out on multiple occasions.
