Auction description:
Saturday, 30 October, 2010
Auction at Castle Combe Circuit, Wiltshire
Lot 737 Description
1968 Jaguar 3.4 S Type Saloon Auto Reg no. VLR 712G. Chassis no. PIB9492BW. Engine no. 7B108488. This particular car had a full engine rebuild including a rebore and new pistons in 1989 by the well respected Sigma engineering automotive specialists in Gillingham, Dorset. All this work is fully documented with invoices for work done, supplied. The car has only covered approximately 8000 miles since, as a previous owner laid the car up in dry storage in 1996 until 2008 when the current owner purchased the car. It was then recommissioned, with a full brake overhaul including new brake discs and pads all round, the brake callipers were stripped and rebuilt with new seal kits. Suspension brakes were replaced at the same time as necessary, all the exterior body panels have been stripped to bare metal and repainted and various other works carried out. It recently passed an MOT and it is sold with a file of invoices, old MOT certificates and a V5 document.

Sold for £7,500

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
