This 1968 Jaguar 3.8 S-Type sedan is a right-hand-drive example that is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with an automatic transmission, and it is finished in tan over a red leather interior. The car is equipped with chrome bumpers and trim, wire wheels, fender-mounted mirrors, a wood dashboard, and an aftermarket radiator. The seller reportedly acquired the car in 2016 from the estate of a person who had owned it for 30 years. Recent work included rebuilding the transmission and the brake calipers as well as replacing the engine freeze plugs, rear suspension bushings, brake pads and rotors, and brake master cylinder. This S-Type is offered with manufacturer’s literature, service records from current ownership, the removed factory radiator, a spare wire wheel and other parts, and a bonded Texas title in the seller’s name.

The car is painted in tan lacquer that is said to have been ceramic coated. Features include driving lights and a Jaguar Leaper hood ornament as well as chrome finishes on the grille, bumpers, trim, and fender-mounted side mirrors. Paint flaws can be seen on the lower body behind each front wheel.

15″ wire wheels with two-eared Jaguar-stamped knockoffs wear 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires purchased new in 2017. The Dunlop four-wheel-disc braking system utilizes inboard rear brakes. The brake calipers were rebuilt and the pads and rotors were replaced under current ownership, as were the rear suspension bushings.

The cabin features red leather seating upholstery with matching carpets, a wood dashboard, and vinyl door panels with wood caps. Amenities include chrome interior hardware, pop-out vent windows, and a full-width parcel shelf. The seller notes that the installed two-band radio is not functional, and the interior shows signs of age such as degradation of the seat foam.

The two-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 45k miles, approximately 4k of which were added under current ownership.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was rated at 220 horsepower when new. An aftermarket radiator has been installed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission that was rebuilt in early 2021.

Manufacturer’s literature and tire-changing tools will accompany the car.

The chassis number on vehicle’s ID plate is P1B58572BW, whereas the title from the state of Texas shows the chassis number as P1858512BW (note the 8 instead of a B and the 1 versus 7).

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
