The car now has the ZF 4-speed gearbox that the XJ40 had. I have this in my blue G as well, and it really transforms the car into a modern car with its OD on 4th gear. Perfect with the original 3.54 diff. These cars, with perfect mechanicals and this gearbox, are a revelation to drive. Far better handling than the smaller saloons of the 60s.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
