    Auction description:
    The Spring Sale
    1969 Jaguar 420 G
    Lot No.: 153
    Registration: YPF 420G
    Chassis Number: G1D56535BW
    Engine Number: 70595818
    CC: 4235cc
    Year of Manufacture: 1969
    Sold for (£): 20,020.00
The 420 'G' or Mk.X offered here is surely one of the best available anywhere in the world. The immaculate Powder Blue paintwork perfectly suits the oversized bodywork and bright chrome finish. Boasting Borg Warner Model 8 automatic transmission with dual drive range, fully independent suspension all round, Jaguar-Bendix developed 'Varamatic' power steering, and self-adjusting disc brakes, the car is responsive, surprisingly spritely and remarkably agile for a car similar in size to a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. The vendor demonstrated to the cataloguer the capability of this car and cites the oversized 750R special order Ferrari tyres as the reason the ride and handling give the impression that the car is on rails, despite its enormous size. The well-appointed interior incorporates spacious seating for five in finest quality Blue Vamoul leather hide with reclining front seats and a centre folding armrest front and back. The handsome polished walnut instrument panel incorporates a centrally mounted clock and a padded safety screen rail.

Delivered new to Mr. Henry Hinton of Rochester, Kent, who kept the car until December 1986 at which time it was purchased by Hurst Park Automobiles for re-sale having travelled just 22,690 miles. The car was duly sold at a little under 23,000 miles and Hurst Park have been responsible for selling this car two more times; once in 1993 at 30,000 miles, and again in 2007 at just 38,000 miles, the price rising by more than 100% in that period. The car today shows just 42,000 genuine miles, and is in better than new condition. 'YPF 420G' is well known in Jaguar circles and won 2nd place the Jaguar Driver's Club Concours D'Elegance at Duxford in August 2008 and featured in the May edition of Jaguar World Monthly.

We rarely see a history file as comprehensive as the one offered with this Lot. Correspondence from past owners accompany invoices from recognised marque specialists such as Doves Jaguar, Surrey, Jaguar Stratstone, London, Norman Motors Ltd, London, and parts from SNG Barratt and Edmunds Walker Ltd.

This is a truly spectacular car from the same home as the World Record making Jaguar Mk.IX which Silverstone Auctions were proud to sell in November 2011 for close to £36,000. Remarkable in both condition and history, this is a vehicle that any enthusiast would be very proud to own.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
