Originally sold in South Africa, this Mk2 Jaguar Saloon was subject to a photo-documented full restoration in 1996 and even featured in the BBC’s ‘’The Cars the Star". It was purchased by our vendor in May 2007 and used as his daily driver for a year and, at the time, the only upgrades fitted were the brakes. In order to further improve the whole driving experience, the well respected Jaguar specialists, Marina Garage of Bournemouth, were tasked by him to carry out a host of improvements in December 2010.

Both the engine and gearbox were completely stripped and rebuilt and a complete stainless exhaust system fitted. Essential for any Mk2, a power steering kit was fitted and a Jaguar air-conditioning kit was fitted and was still blowing ice cold on our recent photoshoot. In addition, a Harvey Bailey Handling Kit was fitted and now this ‘loaded’ Opalescent Silver Blue Mk2 sits four square on Dunlop Aquajet tyres. There are invoices relating to the £23,676.35 Marina Garage expenditure in the history file and it comes complete with its original operating manual.

Used by our vendor for high days and fine days, he has covered approximately 350 miles enjoying the improvements and it has remained part of his South Coast Collection ever since completion in 2011.

If ever a Mk2 ticked all the boxes, this must be the one and, at No Reserve, offers scope for its next owner to enjoy the car or even take it to the next level.

Sold for: £13,794

Car returns to auction 6/23

www.handh.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-1964-jaguar-mkii-38-litre-saloon/

Auction description:

14th Jun, 2023 Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire

1964 Jaguar MkII 3.8 litre Saloon

Sympathetically enhanced with PAS, air-conditioning and a Harvey Bailey handling kit etc

Estimate £20,000 - £25,000

Registration No: ONW 312B

Chassis No: 232636DN

MOT: Exempt

Supplied new to South Africa before being repatriated and treated to an extensive, photographically documented restoration during the mid-1990s

Acquired by its last registered keeper in 2007 who subsequently entrusted it to marque specialist Marina Garage for circa £24,000 worth of fettling and upgrades

In addition to thorough overhauls of the 3.8 litre engine and all-synchro gearbox, the MkII was enhanced via the installation of ZF power assisted steering, air-conditioning, uprated brakes and a Harvey Bailey handling kit

Reportedly supplied new to the car friendly climate of South Africa, chassis 232636DN was repatriated some thirty years later and treated to an extensive restoration by Chris Rawlinson of CR Classic Cars in Cudworth, Yorkshire which was not only photographically documented but also featured in the television programme ‘The Car’s The Star’. Passing its first UK MOT test on July 9th 1996 at an indicated 7,735 miles, the Jaguar was acquired by its last registered keeper during May 2007. Having treated the sports saloon to a stainless-steel exhaust and uprated Zeus brakes, he pressed it into everyday service for a year or so before deciding on a substantial upgrade programme including the fitment of air-conditioning, power assisted rack and pinion steering, electronic ignition, inertia reel seat belts and a Harvey Bailey handling kit etc. The work was carried out by marque specialist Marina Garage of Bournemouth and also encompassed thorough overhauls of the 3.8 litre XK DOHC engine and four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. Costing some £24,000 in total, most of the improvements were completed during 2011. Sparingly used, a mere 400 or so miles have been added to the odometer over the past twelve years with the instrument now showing approximately 36,600 miles. Starting readily and running well during our recent photography session, ‘ONW 312B’ presents as an older restoration albeit one with some highly desirable ‘mod cons’. Offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, photographic restoration album and numerous bills.
