Ebay item 4/26/09 photobucket.com/jaguar-album
Up for auction is my beautiful 1961 Jaguar Mark IX. I am the third documented owner. This car has its original 3.8 liter XK engine, four wheel power assisted disc brakes, power assisted steering and its original Borg Warner 3 speed automatic transmission with intermediate speed hold . It also has its original 16" wheels with 5 brand new custom wide whitewall radial tires from Diamond Back Classics with the correct width whitewall. This 1961 Mark IX jaguar has been remarkably well maintained and preserved to original factory specifications. It not only is a numbers matching car but also exterior and interior color matching as documented by a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate #11813 dated 7/22/08. [please see enclosed picture of the certificate]
The Body , chrome and interior leather and wood are in great original condition as evidenced by the many pictures.
This past year I've invested well over $10k on a mechanical restoration for which I have receipts/documentation for work and parts. I also have receipts for some work done by the previous owner. This car is now very road worthy, dependable and quite comfortable. It starts right up with a push of the button and drives and stops the way it was designed to do. I had the engine rebuilt ,carbs rebuilt ,new exhaust system, brakes redone including a rebuilt master cylinder by White Post Restorations which is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle. New calipers ,brake hoses and a new brake power booster. The car now rides on brand new radial tires for highway safety and handling performance. The only alteration which is easily reversible if you desire was the installation of a pertronix electronic ignition and coil for everyday dependability. Also new items such as a new battery ,ignition wires, hoses etc.etc.
The paint is very glossy and really looks great but it is far from perfect. Many small scratches and nicks over the years have been touched up with different degrees of visibility, however, the shine is very impressive and from ten feet away looks very beautiful. The paint is jet black and the metal has a very smooth feel from all the waxing and cleaning the car gets. Below the chrome on the drivers door the paint isn't as lustrous as the rest of the car probably a repair many years ago but again the car looks fantastic. It would almost be a shame to have it repainted but were I to keep it longer I probably would have it repainted to insure better judging results at JCNA events. For just driving and cruising its very presentable and beautiful the way it is. This car is extremely straight from what ever angle you look at it. You will definately be noticed in this automobile. This car is has real old world charm and pedigree. The ride is very comfortable.
The interior inlaid wood and leather surfaces are incredibly well preserved and possess a wonderful patina. Although the drivers seat shows some age ,the entire interior is very beautiful and complete. The inlaid wood, wonderful and large factory installed sunroof and great looking telescopic steering wheel and wood dashboard along with the beautiful rear picnic tables and magazine rack and clock certainly are timeless touches to this classic automobile.
The chrome is beautiful and very well preserved.A very small amount of pitting is only evidenced on the rear license plate surround, the two rear light housings and the original chrome rimbellishers on the wheels. The bumpers, bumper guards, grill, side windows etc. are truly wonderful with no pitting or hazing evident.
The frame is straight and true along with the entire body of the vehicle. The entire underside is rock solid and extremely clean with no rust evident. The exhaust system is new. I purchased this particular vehicle because of its overall integrity ,completeness ,originality and owner and maintenance history. It was obvious to me that it was garaged its entire life. I'm a jaguar purist and this car was most fitting to my taste. For those enthusiast who share my purist feelings ,I'm listing some of the items that are usually missing on these old cars but are included with this automobile.
1. Original radiomobile radio
2. Original Lucas fog lights
3. Marston excelsior radiator that was redone by previous owner
4. Shelley "roll a lift" jack and tire changing tools
5. Vokes Lite -air filter silencer assembly
6. original SU starting carburetor setup
7. Trico Solvent glass jar for window cleaner
8. Some original tool kit tools in drivers door pouch.
9. Original[bit torn and soiled] service manual and operating manual
10. original wing mirrors and original radio antenna etc.etc.etc.
All the glass on the car is free of cracks and no lamination deterioration is apparent. All the chrome knobs and locks on the interior doors are beautiful and present. Both center window pillar mounted cigarette lighters are present. The only missing item is the cigarette lighter on the dashboard. The tachometer is not functioning and it may be just a loose cable because the previous owner had the tach drive replaced but I haven't gotten to investigating and a few minor light bulbs need replacing which I haven't gotten around to. Included with the sale is a very nice fitting cover for the car.
The headliner is beautiful with a nice patina and no sagging apparent anywhere .
Be sure to view the serial number on the engine head, the original data plate on the firewall ,the body number on the firewall and the current registration and safety inspections required by New York State.
This is a truly an honest and very beautiful classic jaguar with documentation and pedigree and the last year of production for this model in jaguar history. It has safety belts, 4 wheel disc brakes and radial tires for real world driving .It attracts attention from young and old for its timeless beauty and uniqueness. Its only for sale by the way because a fellow jaguar club member has finally offered me his pristine series one e-type jaguar which I have sought for many years. Unfortunately , I can't have both because they certainly make a wonderful pair of stable mates.
