Lot #202532
This 1960 Jaguar Mk IX saloon was refurbished under prior ownership and was acquired by the selling dealer in 2019. Finished in two-tone blue over tan leather, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked with a three-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes twin SU carburetors, PerTronix ignition, a sunroof, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 16″ steel wheels, hubcaps, whitewall tires, an aluminum radiator, bench seats, a Truetone AM radio, and rear-seat tray tables. This left-hand-drive Mk IX is now offered with service records from prior ownership, an operating handbook, tire-changing tools, a picnic basket, a suitcase, and a clean California title.
This car is one of 10,009 Mk IX examples produced during the three-year production run. It has been repainted in two-tone Cotswold Blue and Indigo Blue, the seller tells us. Exterior equipment includes Lucas driving lights, a manually operated sunroof, fender-mounted side mirrors, rear-wheel spats, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
Dark-blue 16″ steel wheels feature Jaguar-logo hubcaps and are mounted with Firestone whitewall tires. The car is equipped with power steering, Spax shocks, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. The emergency brake system was adjusted, lubricated, and serviced in preparation for the sale.
The cabin houses front and rear bench seats upholstered in tan leather. Interior appointments include wood trim, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a Truetone push-button AM radio, door-panel pockets, a passenger grab handle, and a heater.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a walnut veneer dashboard with centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock as well as a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, approximately 250 of which were added by the selling dealer.
Rear occupants are provided with seatback tray tables, a clock, and courtesy lighting.
The 3.8-liter inline-six was factory equipped with two SU carburetors and was rated at 220 horsepower and 237 lb-ft of torque when new. An aluminum radiator has been added. The selling dealer tells us that work completed in preparation for the sale involved removing and re-sealing both fuel tanks as well as fitting PerTronix ignition, mounting a Bosch secondary oil pressure gauge in the engine bay, and changing the air filter and engine oil. The following replacement components were also installed:
Coolant hoses
Distributor cap and rotor
Electric cooling fan and auxiliary switch
Fuel pumps, hoses, and clamps
Fuel filters
Spark plugs and wires
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The rear differential was rebuilt and serviced with replacement seals, gaskets, and fluid in preparation for the sale, per the selling dealer.
Service records, a maintenance and service book, spare keys, a picnic basket, and a suitcase will accompany the vehicle.
The car’s chassis number is 791948BW, whereas the California title cites the VIN as NC58428, which is listed as the vehicle’s engine number on the identification plate.
