Car to be at auction 4/11
www.bonhams.com/eur/auction/19280/lot/330/

Auction description:
Sale 19280 - RAF Museum, Hendon,Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia, 11 Apr 2011
Hendon, RAF Museum
Lot No: 330
1961 Jaguar MkIX Saloon
Registration no. SSL 609
Chassis no. 775325BW
Engine no. NG97888

Estimate: £18,000 - 22,000, € 21,000 - 25,000

An automatic transmission model equipped with power steering, factory-fitted steel sunroof and ACE wheel trims, this MkIX was delivered by Bryson's of New South Wales, Australia to the first owner, who kept it for only six months before selling it due to ill health. The second owner was the first owner's physician, a Dr Syred, while the third was Dr Syred's son, also a doctor. When Dr Syred Jr went to work in Canada the Jaguar went with him as his summer transport. He subsequently moved to the UK where work pressures and other time constraints prompted him to sell the car, a difficult decision after owning it for many years. The Jaguar was then bought by Mr Trevor Wooding of Hurst Park Automobiles, who rebuilt the engine, converted it to unleaded compatibility, and reconditioned the gearbox and rear axle. In 2005 the car was sold to a gentleman in the Netherlands, returning to the UK and Hurst Park Automobiles in 2007.
The accompanying history file contains the original manufacturer's warranty; numerous Australian registration certificates; assorted Canadian documentation; sundry invoices for work carried out in Australia, Europe and the UK; and three expired MoT certificates. 'SSL 609' also comes with operating/maintenance/service manual, expired tax disc (2008), (photocopied) Swansea V5C document and MoT to March 2012 (issued at 87,840 miles).

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
