"1958 JAGUAR MK VIII

RARE & ONE REGISTERED KEEPER FROM NEW

Lot 12
Status SOLD
Estimate £5000 - 6000
Hammer Price £3900.00
Mileage 63746
Colour GREY
Trim Colour RED
Chassis No 7642768WAC06805
Engine No NA28598
Registration WJW 404
CC 3442
M.O.T NOV 2005
After 30,000 of the MkVII as well as the improved MkVIIM had been made and sold up to 1957, the MkVIII successor appeared in Jaguar dealer showrooms with one-piece windscreen and overdrive or optional automatic transmission.
This MkVIII first left the famous Browns Lane works in Coventry 1958, since when, incredibly, it is said to have had just one registered owner. The 63,746 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is believed by the entrant to be the genuine total mileage for this very gentlemanly, though nonetheless sporting Jag from new. The MOT has only very recently been renewed, so the current certificate will be valid until next November.
The chassis is said to be in good shape and the body panels fair with original grey two-tone colour scheme and red interior also fair. The bumpers have been rechromed, a stainless steel exhaust fitted and two tyres renewed. Both the classic 3442cc six-cylinder XK engine, which has excellent oil pressure of 30psi on tickover, and the three-speed automatic transmission are reportedly in good order as is the electrical equipment."

I currently own this car. I purchased it from a local dealer who had bought it from the auction. It appears I am the second owner as the dealer didn't register it before selling it on to me. I ran it for 5 years and it performed well. 18 months ago I decided to begin restoration of the body work. A full rebuild followed...virtually all panels were repaired or replaced. It should be finished in the paint shop by the end of June 2010. Hopefully, by 2011 it will be back on the road.

Virtually all the chrome has been restored and despite the mazak issue, is very good.

The jaguar is now completed and back on the road. It runs brilliantly and looks absolutely lovely. Very proud of the finished results.

I purchased this car about 2 years ago, since then I have had both rear door lower panels cut out and replaced due to bad rot, full front end re-spray as some bubbling was starting to appear, new chrome fog light bowls, new chrome head light spears, radiator grill part re-chromed, new chrome head light motifs, lambs wool over rugs fitted, new script badges fitted on the boot.

flies through MOT,s even though legally not needed, and goes everywhere throughout the summers, even went to Brighton last year which is around 150 miles one way, pleasure to drive especially on the motorways, always attracts attention.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
