This 1955 Jaguar Mk VII M is a running-and-driving project that was built in April 1955 and was initially distributed through Charles H. Hornburg, Jr., Inc. of Los Angeles, California. The seller acquired the car in 2021, and subsequent work involved rebuilding the three-speed automatic transmission and the twin SU carburetors, cleaning and resealing the fuel tank, retrimming the seats in black vinyl, refurbishing the wood dashboard, and replacing the headliner, carpeting, and battery. The white car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six and equipped with a sunroof, 16″ steel wheels, bench seats, a Motorola AM radio, and a heater. The seller states that the car can be driven onto a trailer but notes that the wiring, steering, and exhaust systems require attention. This Mk VII M is now offered at no reserve with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records from current ownership, spare parts, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.
The M variant of the Mk VII is equipped with circular grilles over the horn openings as well as wraparound bumpers and taillights featuring built-in reflectors. This example was finished from the factory in Cream. Exterior equipment includes a manually operated sunroof, driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, and a two-piece windshield. Rear fender skirts and bumpers with overriders will accompany the vehicle. The black California license plate at the rear of the car bears expiration tags from 1967 and 1968, which the seller believes is the last time the car was licensed for road use. Dents, dings, paint blemishes are visible.
The car has body-color 16″ steel wheels; hubcaps are included in the sale. The brakes were serviced under current ownership. The seller states that the steering box will require attention before the car is driven on public roads.
The front seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl while the rear bench is trimmed in leather which the seller notes has been re-dyed. Interior appointments include a walnut dashboard and door caps, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a push-button Motorola AM radio, and a heater. The wool felt headliner was replaced under current ownership, including the area covering the sunroof panel. The wool carpeting and pad also were replaced since 2021, and the dashboard was refurbished. The door panels have not been redone, and the sun visors are not properly secured.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock as well as a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles, approximately five of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.4-liter inline-six was factory equipped with two SU carburetors and was rated at 190 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque when new. The carburetors were refurbished, the fuel tank was cleaned and sealed, and the battery was replaced under current ownership. The seller indicates that the car’s wiring and its exhaust system need work.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission, which was rebuilt in 2021.
The car is titled under the engine number D84238 cited on the identification plate shown above. The plate also notes chassis number 739024BW.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows various identification numbers as well as a manufacture date of April 14, 1955 and initial delivery to a distributor in Los Angeles.
Bumpers with overriders are among the spare parts that will accompany the vehicle.
