    Auction description:
Sale of Vintage, Classic and Collectors Motor Vehicles & Automobilia To be held at Bridgwater, Somerset Monday 4th August 2003
    JAGUAR MK VII M

Looking extremely smart and correctly finished in Cornish grey, the 1955 Mk VII M presented here was first registered in Surrey and is fitted with the optional automatic transmission. Clearly lovingly cared for, the car retains its original red leather trim which has survived particularly well, and the brightwork and fixtures and fittings are all in good condition. The car boasts a factory-fitted sunroof and period tow-bar – surely an ideal way to tow ones historic racing car to meetings or for hauling a period caravan.
The recorded mileage which stands at just over 45,000 may well be correct taking into account the vehicle’s overall condition, and it is offered for sale with a driver’s manual, original RF60 buff logbook, Swansea V5 document and MOT certificate valid until July next year.
    Estimate: £7,500 - £10,000

    Auction description:
    1955 Jaguar Mk VII ‘M’
    Registration Number: YPD 780
    Chassis Number: BW728062
    Engine Number: N1696-8

Supplied new in November 1955, this example came into its third ownership in September 1960 where it remained for 41 years. Bought with just over 40,000 miles on the clock, the car was taken off the road for refurbishment at approximately 58,000 miles (around 11 years ago). Sadly the owner died, passing title to his son, who completed the restoration in 1993 and then covered around 8,000 miles, selling the MkVII in 2001.
Covering few miles since, the car is a very sound example, finished in its original colour of Cornish Grey and with a red leather interior. Fitted with the Borg Warner automatic gearbox (‘M’-spec cars were supplied in either manual or auto form), YPD 780 is in very good order throughout. Retaining its original Surrey registration number, the large toolkit is complete and some of the original small tools remain. Documentation includes the original buff logbook, recent MOT certificates, some old tax discs, current MOT to July 2004 and V5 registration document.
    Estimate: £8,500-£10,000

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
