Ebay item 8/8/14
www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-Other-Saloon-1955-Jaguar-Mark-VII-Saloon-/191279042031
Opening bid US $2,000 reserve not met, no bids 9 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
The over all condition of the Jag is "Fair". It is drive-able as it is, the engine runs good, the
transmission shifts as it should and the brakes are good. All of the glass is good, the upholstery is fair. Some one that knows automotive leather could make the existing leather look almost new. The wood work needs to be refinished, not replaced. The original steel mesh air filter is in a box of spare parts in the trunk. There is a little body damage on the right front fender that does not show up in the pictures, and there is a baseball size dent on the left rear fender. The fender skirts have some minor rust issues, other than that the Jag is very solid. The car will need a complete paint job. It has two lockable gas tanks, I have drained both tanks, cleaned them out with vinegar, flushed them with water and baking soda and they are ready to go. The original spare tire is in the trunk as well as the jack. The tools that are supposed to be in the front door compartments are missing. The car is all original, numbers matching, never modified in any way, except for the air filter which replaced the old steel mesh filter. Oh yeah, the radio still works. I have the original title, with the owners name, that was issued in 1955 when the Jag was brand new. The Jag does have the original "sunroof". The paper work for the car is all in order, so there shouldn't be any problem getting it registered.
I am including the information from the man who bought the car in Scotland. He is a retired Naval officer.
"We purchased the vehicle in Scotland from a broker by the name of Paul Goodyear, in 1986. He told us the car had been sold to him by a family living in Anglesey Wales
We put about 800 miles on the car in Scotland and paid $900.00 to have it shipped from a port near Glasgow to Oakland California when my tour of duty was over. We used it for short pleasure trips around the Monterey Peninsula and Carmel area while I was attending Advanced Russian language training at the Defense Language Institute. When I finished my training at the Presidio of Monterey I drove the car to Pensacola, Florida where I stayed about a month taking classes at Corey station. Upon completion of Instructor training I drove the Mark VIIM to Ellicott City, Maryland. The car was only driven a few miles a couple of times a month to keep it turned over.
When I retired from the Navy in 1993 we stayed on in Maryland getting our house ready to sell. The car was in storage at that time. When we were ready to move in 1999 I had the car shipped from Maryland to Albuquerque.
I drove a few times in Albuquerque until the fateful day in 2001 when I decided to drive down from our apartment at Tramway and Lomas to buy new wiper blades just too wet all the gaskets and charge the battery. On the way home a woman decided she had to cross 4 lanes of traffic without looking to see if it was clear. She pulled up beside another car where she could not see and gunned right out in front of me. In the light rain after a long dry spell the road was too slick to stop in time and I slid into her rear quarter. Her car was totaled, while the Jaguar suffered $1500 damage. Although the accident happened in full view of an Albuquerque police officer and all identification and insurance information was exchanged, my insurance agent was never able to collect from the other driver and decided to pay under my uninsured driver's coverage a full year after the accident.
I never drove the car again."
