This 1950 Jaguar Mk V is one of approximately 577 left-hand-drive drophead coupes built with a 3.5-liter inline-six, and it is said to have been refurbished in the 1990s. Finished in black and silver, the car features a black soft top, driving lights, wheel spats, 16” steel wheels, an independent front suspension, and hydraulic brakes. Inside, red leather upholstery is accompanied by wood trim, Smiths gauges, and bound carpets. This MK V was recently acquired by the selling dealer and is now offered in Canada at no reserve with a car cover and British Columbia registration listing it as a 1949 model.
This example was refinished in black and silver many years ago and features a three-position soft top, a “Leaper” mascot on the radiator cap, tri-bar headlights, driving lights, cowl vents, wheel spats, and polished bumpers with overriders. The semaphores are missing, and paint imperfections around the car are visible.
Color-keyed 16” steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and trim rings, and they are wrapped in whitewall tires. The car rides on double wishbones with torsion bars up front, while the live rear axle is supported by longitudinal leaf springs. Braking is handled by hydraulic drums all around.
The front bucket seats, rear bench, and door panels are trimmed in red leather with black piping, and color-coordinated carpets line the floors. Burl wood veneer accents the dashboard, which is joined by a wood shifter knob, door caps, and trim. Deterioration is visible on the varnish.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 27k miles.
The 3,485cc inline-six features a seven-main-bearing crankshaft, pushrod-operated overhead valves, and twin SU carburetors. Output was factory rated at 125 horsepower. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The vehicle is being sold on its British Columbia registration, which serves as the ownership document in Canada.
