Auction description:
Sale 16135 - Vintage New England, A Sale of Important Motorcars and Automobilia, 4 Oct 2008
The Larz Anderson Auto Museum, Brookline, MA

Lot No: 527•
Multiple award winning
1950 Jaguar MkV Drop Head Coupe
Chassis no. 647139
Engine no. Z2079
The left hand drive 3.5 liter Mk V drophead on offer has been the subject of a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration to the highest standards. No detail has been overlooked, right down to a complete set of tools in the fitted felt-lined tray. Considered by many to be the one of the finest examples of a Mk V in the country, it has won multiple awards at the Greenwich Concours. It’s also the very car Jaguar chose to display in the lobby of its national headquarters as part of the marque’s 60th anniversary celebration. If you’ve ever considered a Mk V, there’s little chance that a better one will come to market. It has the grace of a Bentley, the opulence of a Rolls-Royce and the pace of, well, a Jaguar.

Sold for $152,200 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
