This numbers matching left-hand drive Mk IV Drophead is attractively painted in medium sage metallic with superb beige leather upholstery, wool carpets and excellent walnut door trim and dashboard. Driving equipment includes Lucas lighting, twin SU carburetors, chrome wire wheels and a complete tool kit fitted in the trunk lid.

The flowing exterior is elegant and its luxurious interior is both inviting and comfortable. The Three position top allows for fully enclosed, sedanca or completely open motoring. Recognized as a CCCA Full Classic, the Mark IV represents a wonderful value as an elegant touring car that has impressive presence along with adequate power and reasonable driveability.

Originally sold by Hoffman Jaguar of New York in Sept 1948, in 1981 Ernie Kallweit of West Vancouver British Columbia purchased the car from a North Carolina owner. He carried out the exquisite 15 year frame off restoration from Nov 1986 until June 2001.

Restoration documentation includes original Jaguar service and workshop manuals, detailed logs, receipts and photographs as well as an official Jaguar Daimler Heritage Production Record Trace Certificate.

This Jaguar continues to be the recipient of numerous prestigious awards since it’s first showing in May 2002 and will undoubtedly continue to be. It has been meticulously maintained and exercised, remaining in virtual concours condition. Representing British motoring elegance at its best and with so few having ever been produced let alone surviving, this most desirable left-hand drive 3.5 litre model is an extremely rare classic vehicle.

It is with great reluctance, after 42 years as a cherished “family member” this Jaguar is offered for sale at $120k US.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
