This 1950 Jaguar Mk V saloon is a non-running project that was delivered to its US-based first owner via Max Hoffman of New York and is said to have spent several decades stored in a barn in Pennsylvania before it was purchased by the seller in 2025. The car is equipped with a 3.5-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission along with driving lamps, a steel sunroof, a wood dash panel, and Smiths instrumentation. This Mk V project is now offered at no reserve with spare parts including doors and a boot lid, as well as a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, and a clean Maryland title in the seller’s name.
The Jaguar Mk V was introduced at the 1948 London Motor Show along with the XK120 sports car, and it was the first Jaguar designed for production in both right- and left-hand-drive configurations. This example was delivered from the factory in Birch Grey, and areas of faded black and gray paint remain visible on the bodywork. It retains a polished grille surround, driving lamps, lighting lenses, glass, and fender skirts. Rust is present throughout, there are holes in the doors, and the seller notes that the spare wheel bin beneath the trunk has rusted away.
The 16″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings, and they are mounted with older whitewall bias-ply tires. The Mk V was the first Jaguar model equipped with independent front suspension and a hydraulic drum brake system. The brake shoes have been removed from the car, and they are included in the sale along with a spare wheel and hubcap.
The front seats and rear bench are fitted with red naugahyde covers, and gray leather is present underneath. The headliner and carpets are missing, rust-through is present in the floors, and the seller has not attempted to open the sunroof.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, a 120-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 13k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The 3,485cc pushrod, overhead-valve inline-six was based on a Standard Motor Company design that was purchased by Jaguar prior to World War II. This example retains SU side-draft carburetors as well as an air cleaner. A video of the engine being turned with a screwdriver is viewable in the gallery.
The engine is linked with a four-speed manual transmission. Areas of rust on the underside are visible.
Spare parts, including doors and a boot lid, are included in the sale.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a manufacture date of November 3, 1949, along with factory colors and serial numbers.
