1947 Jaguar Mk. IV (3.5 Litre)
Lot Number 218
Registration 384 XUS
Chassis Number 611207
Engine Number 51244
Odometer reading 22,500 miles
Estimate £32,000 - £43,000 Sold - £30,564
Original righthand drive example
Subject to restoration in circa 2009
A matching numbers example
Supplied originally on 15th May 1947, this righthand drive Mk. IV saloon is fitted with the desirable 3500cc engine offering a brisk performance. Without doubt this Jaguar can only be described as a very handsome piece of design work, with superb lines, lots of chromework and sitting proudly on black wire wheels. Finished in black with contrasting blue leather interior, this Jaguar is an imposing looking opulent sports tourer and we think frankly a very ‘cool’ British car of the 40’s.
This very rare car is a matching numbers and an original UK righthand drive example. Purchased by our vendor as part of a significant private collection in 2015 this example has benefitted from continual maintenance and when not in use stored inside in a professional ventilated Carcoon. Restored to a very high standard 10 years ago with no expense spared it is described as extremely original car. This is a great opportunity as an investment to a collector or enthusiast to enjoy and experience the pleasure of the 1940s era and we think at a very attractive estimate.

1947 Jaguar MK4
Colour Black
Odometer 22,337 Miles
Engine size 3485
Town Preston
Location Lancashire
Country United Kingdom
First model produced after WWII
Rare RHD, original UK registered vehicle
Full restoration in 2009
Favoured 3500c engine
The present owner bought the car just over a year ago to add to his small collection of other Jaguars after falling head over heels for its looks. However, after getting it home he has found the pedal positioning not to his liking and rather than spoiling the vehicles originality by altering their position, he has decided to offer it for sale again.
Whilst in his keep the owner has spent time and effort in maintaining the much favoured 3500cc engine by investing in replacing or servicing many of its ancillaries and of course ensuring all fluids are kept clean and fresh
The Paperwork
There is a current V5 document and receipts available for much of the engine maintenance.
There is also some previous MOT evidence too. The owner is confident further history will be available to the new owner.
The Interior
The upholstery can’t be said to be one hundred per cent perfect as there are some minor imperfections in the leather but the seats remain plump and supportive.
The carpet is generally intact but it has become dislodged and worn through around the pedals. The headlining appears intact and would benefit from a clean.
The timber dash is in fairly good order and all the instruments are complete and appear to be working as they should. Other wooded facets of the interior will need some restorative work to perfect the opulent cabin.
The Exterior
The coachwork is still showing the benefit of the extensive restoration from 2009 and there is a depth to the gloss of the black finish.
All chrome embellishments are there and intact along with all exterior lighting although that has not been tested. The gorgeous large chromed headlamps are in good condition but a purist may want to re-chrome the reflectors. The original wire wheels which are also finished in black do set the car off nicely
The Mechanics
The engine runs quietly and smoothly as you would expect and fires up first time on the starter button. The time and money spent on that department have been worthwhile.
The car was only manoeuvred for the shoot so has not been road-tested but gear selection and clutch seemed to function well as do the brakes.
