Originally delivered new in Paris, but it somehow made it here in the US. "Royal Elysees CH. F. Delecroix, 80, Rue de Longchamps, Paris" Seems to have been a silvery-blue originally. Pretty nice aside from the Chevy Monte Carlo hubcaps... which won't be there for long.

The hubcaps aren't from a chevrolet of any description, they are the wheels and hubcaps used on series 3 E Types (V12), or Series 2 XJ6's. They were probably fitted because it's a little difficult to get the original 14 inch tyres.

Oh I meant the ones I ripped off... I posted the note before I put up pics of the car. They were these awful fake wirewheels from a Monte Carlo. The pictures were posted after the comment. I didn't leave those damn things on there but for a couple days! These wheels came off one of my XJ6's. They are correct for the later 420G possibly? Either way they fit, and will look great when the wide white walls come! Then I can put these tires back on the XJ6 and drive that again...

John, how hilarious. I've bought various cars over the years with steel wheels that the owners "dressed up" with wire wheel hubcaps. I think the XJ6 wheels look fine on your car...much better than some other alternatives!

Ebay item 3/16/08

Current bid $1,525 reserve not met, 11 bids, 9 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
After searching high and low for a really nice Mk. X that wasn't $30k I found this one on craigslist of all places about a year ago. This car is in really nice shape both cosmetically and mechanically. All of the major chunks of this car have been restored: New Interior, Rebuilt Engine (matching numbers), Rebuilt Transmission, Rebuilt front and rear suspension and brakes. This care was torn apart and put together again and someone spent a small fortune doing it too... far more than what the car is worth. I drove this car all the time, often 100 miles a day commuting to work. The only non maintainence work I performed was to rebuild the carbs, and have one gas tank relined because it was all done! (The other gas tank was supposed to go out and get relined too but I never had a chance). Plus I put on some more appropriate wheels to replace the non-Jaguar wheels it had at the time. In the following year, my responsibilities at work forced me to move from a distant house to a nearby apartment, and started to eat up all my weekends too. I've always had Jaguars as my daily drivers, and until very recently had an XJ6 and I still have an XJ-S. Well the XJ-S oil leak went from a drip to a steady stream, and the rear suspension mounts were shot, and the waterpump gasket is leaking... and I don't have time to fix it. The Mk. X needs a new valve cover gasket, and the radiator has a pinhole leak, plus one gas tank needs to be ReNu'd. I live around the corner from a GREAT radiator shop but I haven't had a chance to pull it and have him solder up the leak, but we're talkin' $100 tops to fix that. The gasket is about $2. The first tank was $315 to have done. I've had business trips to China and Germany, plan on getting MBA soon, so I gave up and bought a "real car" last week. With work looking to be hectic clear through summer and with me going back for a masters degree in the fall, keeping three Jaguars looks to be out of the question. I can't sell the XJ-S because I'm sure nobody would buy it, or if I did I'd get about a grand for it. So I have to sell the Mk. X or the MGB... and since the MGB has been in the family for over 20 years, its going to be the Mk X. I've had in the past ten years 2 XJ-S, an XJ12C, XJ6, XJ12L, and three MGs. I love these cars but my circumstances have changed and I just can't keep them as daily drivers any more.

So put in a bid. For the price you won't be dissapointed this is a great car to drive and be seen in. The reserve is probably a little lower than you expect so be careful... you might just bid and own it. There are some quirks... like the parking gear pawl is broken or misadjusted so you have to use the very strong and functional parking brake. The speedo and tach don't work. The radio doesn't work. The wood is sort of a matte finish... not show car quality at all. There are some bubbles here and there, but nothing like you would expect for the price. This car has already had its body restored and painted beautifully, but I'd suspect that was nearly ten years ago now so its starting to look less than perfect. Front and rear window chrome is included, but not installed. Its a huge, wonderful, handsome, excellent car that needs virtually no work.

Well the car didn't meet reserve... bummer. I'm not relisting, but email me if you want to buy it. $8000 firm

Current bid $1,275, no reserve, 8 bids 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
What we have here is a pretty nice car. It is by no means perfect. The restoration was about ten years ago, so the paint has started to bubble in places. This was not a high cost restoration from what I can tell, as the bodywork has a ton of filler. The chrome isn't perfect. The interior was new at the time, but wasn't totally professionally installed (wrinkles, lifting material). You can tell from the pictures that, wow, this is a ton of car for the money. Closer you look the more you realize this is not a $30,000 concours restoration. This is a great car for taking the kids to an ice cream stand, or going to the odd show. People stare at you in this car because it has such a huge road presence... but you'll never get a trophy with this one.

Included in the sale is a set of front and rear windshield chrome strips. They are not currently fitted to the car.

The car starts, but does not run for long. I took it for a run around the block recently, but it stalled at the bottom of every hill (this area is very hilly, so it may be a coincidence). I don't know if it is fuel starvation or an ignition problem. The coil gets very hot. If I had time for the car it wouldn't be for sale! I may or may not have this fixed by the time the car sells. Assume the worst and bid accordingly! If you're bright maybe we can figure out the problem on the phone. I've been through the fuel system 1000 times so I swear it is not that. It must be ignition related.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
