Car was at auction 11/14
Auction description:
Lot 247
French registration
Chassis n° 218596DN
Engine n° LB7432-8
- Ex-Pierre Soulages
- Refined finish
- Good restoration with "matching numbers"
- Great dynamics
It was from Royal Elysée - F Delecroix, rue de Longchamps, Paris that famous French painter and sculptor Pierre Soulages bought this charcoal grey Jaguar, which he owned till 1998. The second owner has fully restored the car, retaining the original colour combination. The body was redone and the door panels replaced with new ones and all the openings properly aligned. The red leather upholstery has a very beautiful effect, and is enhanced by Wilton wool carpet and dark red car mats. The woodwork and the wool roof lining have been restored and all body joints replaced with new ones. Mechanicals have been completely redone as well as all engine accessories. The gearbox has an overdrive and is very smooth and precise and the suspension absorbs road imperfections without the slightest of sounds. The engine oil pressure displays hot idling at 25 psi and 50 psi at 3000rpm. The Dunlop wheels are shod with new Michelin XWX tyres and the chrome has been redone, except for the front bumper. The car is equipped with its antique radio, a battery switch and its maintenance book (in poor condition) along with all annotations, probably by Soulages himself.
This beautiful sports sedan that belonged for 37 years to the famous painter and printmaker Pierre Soulages, specialist of the use of black color reflects which he called "Noir-Lumière" or "Outrenoir" will be an invaluable part of the collection of an enthusiast of the brand or the painter.
