Artcurial - Rétromobile 2025, Paris, France
7 - 8 February, 2025
Lot 59
French title
Chassis No. 214325DN Engine No. LB8619-8
- Gorgeous presentation, exterior and interior
- Iconic sports saloon car combining luxury and performance
- Satisfactory mechanical condition, recent service
- No reserve
Acquired by its current owner in September 2022, this car is a fine example of the world’s first sports saloon. According to an inspection report dated from the 6th April 2023, this Jaguar Mk2 “is in satisfactory condition both mechanically and in terms of its bodywork and interior”. It also specifies that the engine “runs properly without any abnormal noises”, that the bodywork is “healthy, with a quality repaint job and in great condition (...) with no signs of corrosion, dents or accident”. The interior is “redone according to original specifications, clean and very well preserved”. In addition to its original equipment, the car is fitted with a Pioneer ARC car radio with cassette player and electric power steering. Safety-wise, it includes a battery switch and etched windows. In September 2022, this car had a standard service carried out for €1,500, including the replacement of the accessory belt, brake release, engine and gearbox oil change, as well as replacement of engine seals
This is therefore a beautiful example of a Jaguar Mk2, with its grand 3.8-litre twin-cam 6-cylinder engine, its interior combining wood and leather in the purest British tradition, its sleek and sporty design which reminds us that, in its time, it was truly the queen of the road. Its future owner will be able to enjoy all its subtleties: comfort, luxury and performance.
Sold €71,520

Auction description
The example presented here is a 3.8 delivered new in October 1960 by Charles Delacroix. In September 2022, this car underwent a €1,500 service, including replacement of the accessory belt, brake release, engine and gearbox oil change, and replacement of the engine gaskets. Our example shows the effects of age but benefits from well-maintained mechanics and a conclusive road test. The interior retains its original woodwork and upholstery, reinforcing the authentic charm of this model. The last MOT, carried out in October 2025, indicated various items requiring further inspection, particularly in relation to the brakes and corrosion of the underbody. An attractive example, emblematic of British craftsmanship, ready to join a collection or take to the road with elegance.
