The Jag was purchased 30 years ago by the current owner, who found the car on one of the Channel Islands, hence its low mileage. The Jag was not used extensively during the current owner’s time with it, and they have kept it at a local classic car specialist to ensure its well looked after, hence the service records. Currently, due to a lack of use the decision has been made to sell the Jag on to ensure it is used and enjoyed for the future.

On the Outside

The MkII looks very smart in its British Racing Green colour and the bright work really sets it off. There is only very minor pitting or damage to the chrome work from what we can see and the same goes for the chrome wire wheels, which, the owner reports have been swapped out for new ones during his 30-year ownership.

Body-wise the Jag has held its own during the years whilst keeping mileage to a minimum. There is some bubbling to the lower section of the rear passenger and driver’s side doors and there is also what looks to be an outward dent on the driver’s door. There are some paint chips too, but all within what’s expected for the age of the car.

Altogether, the exterior presents nicely and wouldn’t take much to sort out the things mentioned above. The chrome trim has survived nicely and really pops against the deep green paintwork.

On the Inside

Open the Jag up and you’re greeted with the levels of luxury these cars were known for - plush leather upholstered seats, a smattering of wooden trim, black accent highlights from the steering wheel and dashboard instruments and smart carpet and headlining, all of which has lasted very well during the years showing the level of care this Jag has received.

The seats show no obvious signs of heavy damage. There might be a mark here or there such as the stain on the back bench but not big enough to detract from their overall condition. The door cards are in good condition too, with minimal scuffs, rips or tears and the kickplates at the bottom of the doors have protected the paint work underneath. The front seats even have fold down trays in good condition - very posh.

The dash is seemingly in great condition with only a few minor age marks in the lacquer of the wood. The instruments all look to be in good condition too and the owner reports that all instruments are working fine. The wooden trim elsewhere is showing some signs of wear, on top of the doors for example, but it looks to be a degradation of the lacquer as opposed to physical damage of the wood.

The rest of the interior in the cabin is in good condition too, with the headlining not sagging, the carpets not stained beyond what is normally expected with age and all other trim kept in generally good condition.

Open the boot and you’ll find a cover which when lifted, reveals underneath a spare full sized wire spoked wheel with tyre, and metal work in good condition with no obvious signs of corrosion or damage other than superficial, from what we can see. There is also a partial tool kit and jack along with another service manual.

Underneath

Starting with the engine bay, the unit itself looks to be in good visual condition and please do check out the video below to see the car running. The bay looks to be tidy, and the bulkhead and surrounding metalwork look to have little surface corrosion or damage.

Underneath the body of the Jag there is the usual amount of surface corrosion to be seen on the suspension components and metal work where the underseal has come away over the years but it’s much better than you’d expect from a 60-year-old car. The exhaust system is in good condition with little surface corrosion or damage and the suspension components all look to be in good condition too.

History Highlights

The Jag comes with a full V5C, a set of keys and a huge stack of paperwork as well as a ‘Milford Vintage Engineering LTD’ maintenance record binder to keep all the paperwork in one place. The record of service for this car is huge and we couldn’t possibly justify writing it all out in this advert, however we have read through it all and have highlighted significant and recent work completed below.

05/07/2021 – Free seized brakes, overhaul of braking system with bead blasting and refurbishing brake callipers, new brake servo.

03/05/2017 – 60,096 miles – Overhaul of engine components, fluids, braking system, filters, lubrication and adjustments. Steering rack refurbished and interior cleaned.

25/04/2017 – New ball joints and brake pads, new universal joints on propshaft, new shock absorbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
